Eight Guangdong Residents Face Prosecution for Their Faith

(Minghui.org) Eight residents of Shanwei City, Guangdong Province are facing prosecution for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Seven of the eight practitioners were arrested on the same day and their photos are shown below.

Mr. Zhuang Xiachang, Mr. Huang Shengwei, Mr. Wu Yiguo, 62, his wife Ms. Zeng Shaolan, 54, and Mr. Chen Xianzhen, were arrested at around 10 p.m. on April 9, 2020, while studying Falun Gong teachings at Mr. Zhuang’s home.

Another married couple, Mr. Liang Shengqiang and Ms. Yu Shaoliang, were arrested around the same time.

The eighth practitioner, Ms. Ye Xiaojie, was arrested on June 9, 2020.

All of the practitioners are currently detained at the Shanwei City Detention Center. The police recently submitted their cases to the Shicheng District Procuratorate.

This wasn’t the first time that most of the practitioners have been persecuted for their faith.

Mr. Zhuang, 62, was previously sentenced to 3.5 years in Sihui Prison after he was arrested in November 2002 for distributing booklets about Falun Gong.

Mr. Huang, 48 and an accountant, was given three labor camp terms between 1999 and 2011, for a total of six years. His wife was five months pregnant when he was recently arrested in April 2020. During the latest arrest, the police confiscated more than a dozen pieces of gold jewelry, 7,500 yuan in cash, computers and bank cards while ransacking their home.

Ms. Ye, 61, was sentenced to eight years in Guangdong Province Women’s Prison following her arrest in March 2004.

Although Mr. Chen, 55, was released on bail after his arrest in early April 2020 due to a lung condition, the police took him back into custody in mid-May.

Mr. Liang, 57 and a real estate agent, was given 1.5 years of forced labor in 2007.

Ms. Yu, 56 and an insurance agent, was given one year of forced labor in August 2007.
