(Minghui.org) A Xiong County, Hebei Province resident was tried by the Bazhou City Court through a teleconference on July 30, 2020, for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. Her lawyer, who entered a not guilty plea for her, and two family members attended the hearing in person in the courthouse.

At the end of the hearing, Ms. Liu Bohui’s two family members overheard a conversation between judge Zhang Bin, prosecutor Zhang Jinluan, a few other court staff members, and agents of the 610 Office, an extralegal agency created specifically to persecute Falun Gong.

According to Ms. Liu’s family, a short-haired woman said, “What kind of hearing was this today? Fortunately no outsiders were here. It would have been really bad if we had any outsiders today. There was no evidence against the defendant at all.”

The woman then asked judge Zhang Bin, “The hearing was in video format today. Will it be seen by others?” She went on to say, “There are a few things the lawyer said today, including insufficient evidence, violation of legal procedure, and lack of legal basis, you should think of ways to handle that as soon as possible.”

Judge Zhang replied, “We don’t care what the lawyer says. He says what he says, and we do what we do.”

After realizing that Ms. Liu’s family members were nearby, he said to those people, “Let’s not talk about this in front of her family,” and then left.

Yanked Off Bike by Officer, Head Hit the Ground

Ms. Liu was arrested along with Ms. Guo Yanmei and Ms. Tian Junjie, on September 17, 2019, by a plainclothes officer, for talking to him about Falun Gong. The officer yanked Ms. Liu off her electric bicycle, causing her head to hit the ground. She passed out immediately.

Despite the intense pain in her shoulder after she came to, the officer took her to the police station and then sent her to Bazhou City Detention Center, where she has been held since.

Around 11:00 p.m. on the day of Ms. Liu’s arrest, a group of armed police officers scaled her fence and ransacked the home. Her Falun Gong related materials were confiscated.

While Ms. Guo and Ms. Tian were later released on bail, Ms. Liu remains in custody.
