Case Against a Falun Gong Practitioner in Liaoning Dismissed

Aug. 15, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) The case against a Dandong City, Liaoning Province, resident for his faith in Falun Gong was dropped by the authorities in July 2020.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Li Caiyu was arrested and had his home ransacked on February 4, 2020, after the police suspected him of spray painting a message that read “Falun Dafa is good.” His family went to the local police station on February 4 and 5 to demand his release.

The police first maintained that they wouldn’t release Mr. Li unless he wrote a statement to renounce Falun Gong, but they later relented and released Mr. Li on bail on February 5, at his family’s strong request.

Mr. Li received a call from the Zhen’an District Procuratorate on July 8, 2020, and was summoned to answer some questions. After he went there, a female prosecutor asked whether he still practices Falun Gong. Mr. Li replied that he didn’t violate any law in practicing Falun Gong and that he wouldn’t write anything to admit guilt or to renounce his faith.

Though the prosecutor threatened to indict him and send his case to the court, Mr. Li was informed by the procuratorate a week later that they had returned his case to the police due to insufficient evidence. The police subsequently withdrew the case against him.
