Hubei Woman Faces Trial for Talking to People about Her Faith

Aug. 1, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old resident in Wuhan City, Hubei Province is scheduled to appear in court on July 28, 2020, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Tang Changjun was arrested on April 12, 2019 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong on the subway. While Ms. Tang’s family stopped the police from ransacking her home that evening, the police returned the next morning to raid the place. They confiscated her computer, printer, and other valuables.

Ms. Tang has been held at the Wuhan City No. 1 Detention Center since. She was indicted and had her case submitted to the Hanyang District Court on November 6, 2019.

In the past two decades, Ms. Tang has been arrested and detained several times for upholding her faith.

She was first arrested on the evening of October 3, 2000 and sent to a brainwashing center.

The police attempted to arrest her again on November 5, 2002 during the communist regime’s political meeting, as the authorities were trying to prevent her from going out to speak up for Falun Gong. After Ms. Tang refused to open the door for the police, they arranged people to stay outside her home around the clock and monitored her for four days, until the regime’s meeting ended on November 19.

Ms. Tang was arrested and sent to a brainwashing center again on February 20, 2003. There, she was tied to a bed and force fed. As she refused to give up Falun Gong after a round of persecution, she was transferred to a detention center and held there for one month, before being sent back to the brainwashing center and held there for two more months. Her husband worried about her safety during her detention. He couldn’t eat or sleep well and suffered a heart attack.

Ms. Tang was taken to the brainwashing center two more times around May 2011 and on May 19, 2012.

During the “Knocking on the Door” campaign in 2017, a group of officers harassed Ms. Tang and took her picture. Her husband was forced to sign a form without her knowledge.

A group of officers harassed her and took pictures of her again on March 6, 2018.
