(Minghui.org) A Linqing City, Shandong Province resident was sentenced to three years and three months and fined 10,000 yuan in late June 2020 for her faith in Falun Gong. She has appealed the verdict with the Liaocheng Intermediate Court.

Ms. Ma Shaojie was arrested on September 13, 2019, after she was reported for talking to people about Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. She was released after one day of detention but was arrested again at home on the morning of September 17. The police held her at the Guan County Detention Center.

Ms. Ma was tried by the Guan County Court via video conference on June 16, 2020. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her and she also testified in her own defense.

The judge announced the verdict days later.
