Detained Woman in Baoding, Hebei Province Denied Medical Treatment

July 17, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in Baoding City, Hebei Province has been detained for more than a month for her faith in Falun Gong. Ms. Wu Junping, in her 70s, is currently experiencing prolonged vertigo and has trouble eating. The Baoding City Detention Center has refused to provide medical treatment to her.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wu took up Falun Gong before the persecution started, and she credits the practice for curing her high blood pressure and heart disease.

More than ten police officers broke into Ms. Wu’s home around 10 a.m. on June 6, 2020, and arrested her. They also confiscated her Falun Gong books, pamphlets, and a printer.

Ms. Wu was brought to Xinshichang Police Station. She held a hunger strike to protest her arrest. At night, the police ordered her to sleep on a filthy mat on the floor. They kept the air conditioning on but didn’t give her any bed coverings. She began to exhibit high blood pressure.

Ms. Wu fainted when the police forcibly collected her fingerprints on June 8 and was taken to the hospital for resuscitation. Even though her blood pressure was more than 200 mmHg, the police pressured the Baoding City Detention Center into accepting her later that day; the center initially refused to take her due to her medical condition.

Ms. Wu’s daughter, who was living out of town, was very worried about her and hired a lawyer to represent her.

When the lawyer went to inquire about her case, officer Ping Zhanlong refused to talk and drove the lawyer out of the police station with another officer, Tian Jing. Only after the lawyer filed a complaint against Ping did he agree to detail information about Ms. Wu’s arrest to the lawyer.

The lawyer visited Ms. Wu at the detention center on July 7. She told him that she felt dizzy every day and wasn’t given any treatment. The guards also forced her to sit during the day and didn’t allow her to lie down to rest.
