(Minghui.org) As a Falun Dafa cultivator, one will go through various tests during one’s cultivation, such as when one’s reputation is tarnished by others or one is taken advantage of. How to handle these conflicts is the process one has to go through. As long as one abides by Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and elevates one's xinxing (character), things will surely be resolved.
I have had my fair share of xinxing tests during my cultivation of Falun Dafa. Below I share stories of how I avoided three fights with my neighbor over the years.
My family wanted to build a new house in 1998 so we traded some of our cropland for our neighbor's vacant lot at the rate of 1 acre for 1 acre. Before the land survey was done, however, our neighbor started building a new house of their own on the lot. Two years later, when my family secured all the necessary documents to build our house, what was left in the lot was no longer as much as what our neighbor had initially agreed to trade to us.
Worse yet, our neighbor broke the agreement and demanded we use twice our cropland to trade for the same size lot as his. Otherwise, he wouldn't even let us build anything on his lot.
Many of our fellow villagers felt the neighbor was bullying us. My husband's sister urged us to demand the neighbor take down their new house. My father-in-law was also very upset since he had been hoping to build our new house for the last twenty years. My husband and our neighbor kept arguing with each other.
I knew that the neighbor’s son was getting married so he was building a new house. I thought since I am a Falun Dafa practitioner, I should not behave like ordinary people.
I persuaded my husband to give in and told our neighbor that we'd give them some extra cropland. They agreed and we resolved the conflict.
There were many villagers who had gathered in front of our house to watch “a big fight” and they were surprised to see things calm down so quickly. Some asked me why I didn't fight tooth and nail, and I told them Falun Dafa taught me to be considerate of others.
We got our new house built without any conflicts with our neighbor.
In the Spring of 2005, I was watering my crops when another villager asked how much more land I gave to my neighbor's family. The villager also commented on how could someone be so bad, etc. Our neighbor's wife, who happened to be nearby, overheard the conversation. She began to curse me.
In no time, her husband, son, and daughter-in-law all came out to curse me and my family. Many villagers were there and they said my neighbor's family were bullies. Seeing the crowd's support of my family, my neighbor's family retreated back home.
After everyone left, however, the neighbor's son came out again with a kitchen knife in his hand. I looked at him and suddenly remembered what Master Li Hongzhi taught us in the following poem:
“Countless are the chaotic things in this human worldGratitude and resentment now heaped atop one another,No hope had the wicked of heart, their karma massive‘Tis Dafa that resolves everything at the source”(“Undoing the Diaster,” Hong Yin II, translation version A)
I told the young man: “Drop your knife! I can’t believe you are so impulsive and you are just about to be a father.” He dropped his knife. His heavily pregnant wife came out and began to curse me. I told her to stop cursing for the sake of her unborn baby and herself. She left. I continued watering my crop. That night, the young woman and her mother-in-law came over to apologize to me.
A few days later, while doing meditation, I saw the pregnant woman and her baby in other dimensions three times. The first time the baby looked fine; the next time I saw the umbilical cord wrapping around his neck; the third time he seemed in distress and had trouble breathing.
I stopped my meditation and rushed to tell the mother-to-be what I saw. I urged her to go to the hospital for a checkup. She went and the baby was indeed in distress. The doctors said that if she came a few hours later, both she and the baby would have been in grave danger.
She went through an emergency cesarean and stayed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 12 days. Her baby was discharged after 28 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
After they returned home, I went to visit them and brought the baby some gifts. They were very grateful, and I said that it was Dafa that saved their baby.
This year my son wanted to pave the road in front of our new house. Our neighbor opposed it, saying part of the road was their private property.
I noticed that my resentment towards our neighbor surfaced. After discussing with fellow practitioners, I realized it was time for me to further increase my capacity.
Master said:
“If you can tolerate it and yet it preys on your mind, it is still not good enough.” (Lecture Nine, Zhuan Falun, 2014 translation version)
Master also said:
“Whether or not you can be saved depends on the change and ascension of your own heart. If change does not occur there, you cannot improve and nothing can be achieved.” (“Dafa Cannot be Used,” Essentials for Further Advancement)
I thought it over and decided to completely let go of my resentment. My family and my neighbor's family re-did a land survey and found that part of the road my son planned to pave indeed belonged to the neighbor. We reached an agreement on what portion of the road we could pave. Our neighbor was satisfied with the solution and his family and ours have been getting along very well ever since.
