(Minghui.org) A Dandong City, Liaoning Province resident was tried by Zhen’an District Court on June 12, 2020 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
The prosecutor said Ms. Zheng Guixiang was recorded by surveillance camera for distributing informational materials and talking to people about Falun Gong. She accused her of “undermining law enforcement,” a standard pretext used by the Chinese courts to frame Falun Gong practitioners.
Ms. Zheng, who wasn’t represented by a lawyer, testified in her own defense. She refuted that no law ever criminalized Falun Gong in China and her passing out information about Falun Gong didn’t break any law or harm anyone. She pleaded not guilty.
Ms. Zheng’s son wasn't informed of her hearing until the night before. The court staff lied that only one family member was allowed to attend. So he didn’t inform other family members and attended the hearing by himself.
Ms. Zheng was arrested on November 20, 2019, while talking to people about Falun Gong in a supermarket. Her son was denied the right to visit her and was given the run-around between the police station, procuratorate, and court while seeking her release.
Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Zheng was arrested on July 26, 2013, for talking to people about Falun Gong and detained for 15 days.
