June 15, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Hunan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Once incarcerated for more than eight years for practicing Falun Gong, a Shaodong County, Hunan Province resident was sentenced again for his faith.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Zeng Zhiyuan and his wife Ms. Li Feiyan were arrested at home on October 6, 2019. Their Falun Gong books, printer and computer were confiscated. The procuratorate approved Mr. Zeng’s arrest on November 14, 2019. He was tried and sentenced to five years by Shaodong City Court on May 12, 2020.

Mr. Zeng has been held at Shaodong Detention Center since his arrest and denied family visits. It’s reported that he is in serious medical condition, and it's not clear whether the detention center has provided medical care to him.

Five months prior to Mr. Zeng’s arrest, his real estate employer fired him on May 13, 2019, after being pressured by the 610 Office, an extralegal agency created to persecute Falun Gong.

Ms. Li was released on bail on November 14, 2019. It’s not clear whether she is facing indictment. Agents from the Domestic Security Division harassed her on March 20, April 29, and May 21, 2020, threatening her not to go out to distribute Falun Gong-related materials.

Prior to Mr. Zeng’s latest prison term, he was given three labor camp terms and a prison term for a total of eight years and three months. He was subjected to sleep deprivation, electric shocks, force-feedings and beatings. The guards also forced him to do unpaid labor and injected him with unknown drugs.
