(Minghui.org) Three Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province residents were arrested on May 17, 2020, for practicing Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual and meditation practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhang Bianying, Mr. Wu Baoming, and Mr. Gong Guoqing are currently held at Taiyuan No.3 Detention Center. It remains to be investigated whether the police are planning to pursue prosecution against them.
Mr. Gong, 78, is affectionately known as “Uncle Gong.” He credits Falun Gong for turning him into a friendly and calm man.
Mr. Gong took up Falun Gong in the late 1990s. Before that, he suffered a strange condition of frequent vomiting. Extensive medical exams couldn’t explain what was wrong. He visited many doctors of both western and Chinese medicine. But after spending all of his savings and going through many painstaking treatments, his condition remained the same. He was so weak that he had to wear sweaters and thick pants even in the summer.
Just as he was desperate about his condition, Mr. Gong was introduced to Falun Gong. His body was soon purified and not long afterward, he was able to eat normally and help with some household chores.
Months later, the communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. The police kept pressuring him to renounce his faith, sometimes scaling his fence and breaking into his home in the middle of the night to harass him. He was detained for a month after being arrested on November 21, 2012, for distributing Falun Gong materials.
His wife was traumatized by the persecution and fell into a delirious state at times. Her vision gradually worsened and she is completely blind now.
Since she fell ill, Mr. Gong has been taking good care of her. Despite his own advanced age, he said practicing Falun Gong truly gives him good health and strength to carry through the ordeals over the years.
Mr. Gong’s wife said she is grateful for Falun Gong and she is longing for Mr. Gong's release.
