(Minghui.org) A woman serving eight years for practicing Falun Gong has been denied buying daily necessities and subjected to various forms of abuses because of her refusal to renounce her faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Wang Lei, 55 and a resident of Beijing, has been denied buying daily necessities since her imprisonment at Inner Mongolia Women’s Prison in September 2016. The prison guards often shock her with electric batons when she refuses to follow prison rules or shouts “Falun Dafa is good” in protest of the persecution. She isn’t allowed to talk to anyone either.
Two inmates, Yang Xiuwen and Chang Ruixiang, have been assigned to monitor her around the clock. It’s reported that they are putting drugs for high blood pressure and heart disease into her food every day, even though she doesn’t have such conditions.
Many Falun Gong practitioners are forced to do intensive, unpaid labor in the prison. It’s not clear whether Ms. Wang has been forced to do so.
Ms. Wang was a businesswoman. For upholding her faith in Falun Gong, she has been repeatedly arrested and imprisoned.
She developed a mental disorder around 2001 while serving three years of forced labor. Two male guards shocked her face with electric batons until they ran out of charge. After that torture session, she began to hear voices and suffered from anxiety attacks.
She managed to recover by resuming Falun Gong exercises, only to have a relapse following her latest arrest on February 26, 2014.
The Fangshan District Court sentenced her to eight years in prison on November 24, 2015. Her appeal of the verdict was rejected by Beijing City No. 2 Intermediate Court on February 24, 2016.
She prepared a motion to reconsider her case before being imprisoned. Her lawyer visited her three times in the prison to get her signature on the motion but was turned away by the authorities each time. Her motion still hasn’t been submitted at the time of writing.
