(Minghui.org) A gynecologist in her 60s in Nong’an County, Jilin Province has been detained since her arrest on July 16, 2020, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
A group of officers broke into Ms. Sun Fengxian’s home as soon as she opened the door to go to work. They ransacked her home and took her away. She is now facing trial after the Dehui City Procuratorate indicted her and forwarded her case to the Dehui City Court on November 10.
On the same day, Ms. Sun’s husband, Mr. Zhang Wei, wrote an open letter to the prosecutor and judge, urging them to drop her case and release her.
Mr. Zhang said, “My wife used to suffer migraine headaches. She took so many painkillers that they no longer worked on her. She also had a heart condition and an irregular heartbeat. When she had a migraine, she also had chest pain. She felt like a big piece of rock was pressing against her chest and she had difficulty breathing. In 1999, the doctor told us that there was no way for her to fully recover and it could only be maintained by medication. Can you imagine how much pressure we had back then?”
“Also in 1999, my wife began to practice Falun Gong. Within a year, her migraine headaches were completely gone and she didn’t have chest tightness anymore. It was just amazing! Since then, she has never needed to see the doctor again. She was full of energy and never had a problem meeting the demands of her busy schedule as a gynecologist. Our whole family felt our life was turned around."
“At 7:30 a.m. on July 16, my wife was about to go to work. As soon as she opened the door, a dozen officers broke in. They searched everywhere, but without showing a search warrant or allowing us to speak. They took away our computer and everything they deemed related to Falun Gong, including the books. My cellphone was also seized, although it didn’t have anything related to Falun Gong. Our TV antenna wasn’t spared either. What’s the difference between what the police did and a robbery?”
“Both of us were brought to the police station for interrogation. My wife was terrified and light-headed. She began to feel sick again. She was then sent to the hospital ward of the Changchun City Detention Center and then transferred to the Nong’an County Detention Center.”
“My wife didn’t violate any law. There is no legal basis for the persecution. The Constitution also protects one’s religious freedom. I know the 610 Office [an extralegal agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong] never published a formal order about the persecution, but only delivered it orally. They did this to avoid leaving any evidence. When the truth is one day exposed, those who executed their persecution policy will be the scapegoat for them.”
“My honorable prosecutor and judge, I believe you will follow the law in ruling my wife’s case. Please release her. I believe people with good hearts will be blessed.”
