66-year-old Man Arrested a Second Time in Six Months for His Faith

Nov. 14, 2020 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Teng Yuguo and his wife were harvesting pumpkins in their garden at around 10 a.m. on October 13, 2020, when a group of police officers broke in. His wife was scared and shouted, “The police are coming to arrest you again! Run!”

Before Mr. Teng was able to take off, the police grabbed him. With his wife crying on the side, the police beat 66-year-old Mr. Teng and his face bled. Then they handcuffed and shackled him. “Now you have an additional charge on top of the previous one (for practicing Falun Gong),” one officer said to him.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

The police took Mr. Teng, a Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, resident, to the police station. After being held in the Dadong Detention Center for four days, he was taken to the Sujiatun Detention Center on the outskirts of the city. The authorities wouldn’t let his lawyer visit him, using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse. His family is very worried about him.

Mr. Teng’s wife was so traumatized that she is still frightened and having trouble organizing what she wants to say.

Mr. Teng’s latest arrest came less than a month after he returned home from six months in hiding to avoid being arrested. He had previously been seized by the same officers from Minzhu Police Station in a group arrest of a dozen Falun Gong practitioners on April 23, 2020. The police ransacked his home and confiscated his computer, printer, and other personal belongings worth more than 5,000 yuan. His private vehicle and 12,000 yuan in cash were also impounded. Although the police returned his car, they refused to return anything else.

Mr. Teng was released around 2 a.m. on April 27, after he was denied admission to the detention center due to a fever. The police, however, continued to harass him, forcing him to live away from home and go into hiding.

Worried about him, his family asked a friend with connections to the police department to find more about his case. They were told that the police had already dismissed his case and it was safe for him to return home. He reunited with his family, only to be arrested again weeks later.
