(Minghui.org) Ms. Ma Yueqin, a resident in Linyin County, Henan Province, was sentenced to 1.5 years for raising awareness about her faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Ma, a retired elementary school teacher in her 60s, and Ms. Sun Yuzhi were arrested on November 29, 2019, after they were reported for distributing calendars with information about Falun Gong in a village. The police ransacked their homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books, materials and photos of Falun Gong’s founder.
Both women were interrogated at Linyin County Police Department. As Ms. Sun has some eye problems and was unable to take care of herself, she was released around 2 p.m. on the same day.
Ms. Ma has been held at Luohe City No.2 Detention Center since. Her husband visited her in early January 2020 and deposited some money and clothes for her. He fell ill after returning home and is now relying on his nephew to take care of him.
He recently confirmed that Ms. Ma has been sentenced by the Linyin County Court between July and August 2020. It’s not clear whether she has been sent to prison.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Ma was given a year at Shibalihe Forced Labor Camp in 2006 and sentenced to prison with an unknown term in 2014. Her pension was suspended after she was released.
