(Minghui.org) An elderly couple in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province was sentenced to two years in prison shortly after being arrested in August 2018 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Shuying is now serving time at Nanjing Women’s Prison, and Mr. Sun is imprisoned at Suzhou Prison (about 140 miles from Nanjing).
Ms. Liu, a retired science researcher, has been repeatedly arrested and detained for not giving up her faith for the past 20 years.
Mr. Sun, a former professor at People's Liberation Army Communication Engineering College in Nanjing, began practicing Falun Gong only two years ago, after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. His health soon recovered, but he is now imprisoned for holding firm to the life-saving practice.
Three months before the couple was arrested, their daughter, Ms. Sun Xuezhi, was also arrested, on May 10, 2018, for distributing information about Falun Gong, and held at the Nanjing City Detention Center. Her arrest was approved on June 16, 2018. The current status of her case remains to be investigated.
