(Minghui.org) A Zaoyang City, Hubei Province resident has been held in custody for more than two years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Yumei, in her 30s, was arrested on October 23, 2017 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and took her to Zaoyang Detention Center, where she has been held since. She was later issued a formal arrest warrant, but it is unclear whether she has been indicted.
Prior to her latest ordeal, Ms. Zhang was arrested on June 22, 2009. The police deprived her of sleep and forced her to sit straight from 4 p.m. to the next morning, during which time she wasn't given any food or drink. They beat and verbally abused her if she moved a little.
Ms. Zhang was later sentenced to serve time at Wuhan City Women’s Prison. She was forced to do unpaid labor for more than ten hours each day. The guards also held numerous brainwashing sessions and attempted to force her to renounce her faith.
