Imprisoned Woman Kicked for Writing Letter to Prison Director

October 07, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Inner Mongolia, China

(Minghui.org) A woman from Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia, was arrested in 2015 after filing a criminal complaint against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999.

Ms. Pan Lijuan was sentenced to seven years and sent to Inner Mongolia No. 1 Women's Prison in 2016. She was severely beaten, shocked with electric batons, and deprived of sleep for refusing to renounce her faith.

Ms. Pan wrote a letter to the prison director explaining the facts about Falun Gong. She put it in the director's mailbox (the “comments” box) on April 25, 2019. Three days later, Meng Ying, the guard in charge of her section, summoned her to the office.

Meng told her, “This letter you wrote about Falun Gong is not good. The director will think that we have management issues if he reads it. It won’t be good for any of us.”

Ms. Pan replied, “There are so many Falun Gong practitioners in this prison. I just want the director to know what Falun Gong is. Isn't that what the director's mailbox is for?”

Meng pushed Ms. Pan down and kicked her twice before sending her back to her cell.

Meng targeted Ms. Pan again in July 2019 when she found out that Ms. Pan did the Falun Gong exercises.

Under Meng's directive, team lead Wu Ruiqin would not let Ms. Pan go to bed when the other inmates did. Instead, she forced Ms. Pan to sit still for 50 minutes every night and then let her go to sleep. This went on for 15 days.

In early June, another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Li Ping, was also punished for doing the exercises. She was forced to sit still from 1:00 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., with two inmates monitoring her closely.
