(Minghui.org) A Liaoning woman kept in custody for her faith in Falun Gong is now extremely weak and can't walk on her own, her lawyer said after visiting her at Dandong Detention Center on September 19, 2018.

Ms. Shao Changhua told her lawyer that she was holding a hunger strike in protest of her arbitrary arrest and detention. She was carried out from her cell by two inmates to meet with the lawyer.

Ms. Shao was arrested on August 17, 2018, after the police began to suspect her involvement in the case of two other practitioners, who had been sentenced to prison for putting up Falun Gong banners.

The police initially told her family that they would only detain her for seven days. But when her family visited her on the fifth day after her arrest, she had already been transferred to another facility and placed under criminal detention. The police is now preparing to submit her case to the procuratorate.

According to those who had been detained at Dandong Detention Center, most Falun Gong practitioners on hunger strikes were force-fed by inmates who didn't have any medical background, often resulting in severe injuries.

The guards usually tied the victims' limbs to the ground, denied their restroom use, and then ordered inmates to insert feeding tubes into their noses. When the practitioners resisted, the guards and inmates would beat them.

Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Shao had been sentenced twice, in 2005 and 2010, to a total term of nine years for not renouncing Falun Gong. She was brutally tortured and injured at Liaoning Women's Prison.
