March 07, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Anhui Province, China

(Minghui.org) Maanshan City practitioner Ms. Shang Qin, in her 60's, was sentenced to one year and six months and fined 5,000 yuan on December 29, 2017 for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual practice being persecuted by the Chinese Communist regime. She pleaded not guilty and appealed the verdict to the Anhui Intermediate People's Court. Her case was accepted and filed on January 23, 2018.

Ms. Shang was arrested by officers from the Huashan District Domestic Security Brigade on May 4, 2017 for distributing Falun Gong materials. She has been detained at Huashan Detention Center, where she was tortured, handcuffed, and shackled for protesting the persecution.

Her disabled older sister, Ms. Shang Yue, was not informed of the arrest. Instead, she received from the police a pair of Ms. Shang Qin's shoes and an arrest warrant. Some plainclothes police also ransacked her home and confiscated some copies of Minghui Weekly, Falun Gong books, and Master Li's (the founder of Falun Gong) photos.
