(Minghui.org) I am close to 80 years old and was a soldier in the 1960s. After I was discharged from the military, I worked in a government organization. I retired in the 1990s. When I discovered Falun Gong in 1996, I finally felt I'd found the meaning of life.
My wife and I began practicing Falun Gong in June of 1996. My shoulder pain, sciatic nerve pain, and gastrointestinal problems disappeared shortly after. My wife's health also improved. I was deeply grateful for my renewed health and began to cultivate diligently.
We went out every morning to do the exercises and read the Fa with a group every night. I lived by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and got rid of many bad habits, such as drinking and smoking. My driver was the first to notice that I'd changed. He went home and told his wife, who was also impressed, and they and their child also took up the practice.
Not only did my health improve, but my energy also increased, and I could look at and resolve interpersonal problems more comprehensively.
For example, due to management conflicts at a satellite office, things were not going well. My superior sent me to resolve the situation and told me I could have whatever I needed to get it right. I told him that I did not need anything and thanked him for his trust.
I promoted Falun Gong and told the office workers about the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. They saw its goodness from my actions. They learned that Falun Gong is an ancient school of self-cultivation, and some of them also began practicing. Those who didn't still learned to be better people. The situation at work quickly changed, and by the end of that year, that office was one of the most advanced in the company.
Working in local government, we sometimes had to work with companies and enterprises in the community and help them solve problems. One time, a manager of a local company asked us for help. I did some coordinating and solved his cash-flow problem, saving him tens of thousands of yuan. At the end of that year, he brought me a bonus from his company.
I stopped him and said, “I get paid a salary. What I did for you was part of my job. I will not take your money. I practice Falun Gong, and our master teaches us to abide by Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.” He was deeply impressed: “Cultivators are different. If government officials all behaved like you, our nation would not be in the mess it is right now.” He told me that he would promote Falun Gong in his company and promised to practice it after he retired.
I did well at work, and my superior wanted to promote me, but he ran into resistance from the administration. He felt bad that he could not keep his promise. I consoled him and said that, after I learned Falun Gong, I was no longer attached to fame and gain like I was before. I told him I would still do a good job whether I was promoted or not. He thanked me for my consideration. When other people at work heard about our conversation, they thought I was foolish. I just smiled.
After I retired, many companies wanted me to work for them as a consultant. I turned all of them down. Later, when I was arrested because I gave out Falun Gong brochures, the CEOs of several companies came to visit me and vouched for my innocence. They told the personnel in the judiciary not to persecute a good person like me.
When the persecution began, the 610 Office ordered the judiciary to monitor Falun Gong practitioners in their district. I was their main target.
They arranged for people to follow and monitor me, bugged my home phone and cell phone, and checked my mail and packages.
Six people took turns following me. As soon as I went out, two people would show up behind me. It was very hard for them not to lose me, since I was an instructor in how to tail someone when I was in the military. I easily lost them and then saw them fighting with each other when they couldn't find me.
I suddenly appeared in between them and asked why they were fighting. They were embarrassed and did not know how to reply. I asked them why they were following me. They said it was because I practiced Falun Gong.
I explained to them that they were breaking the law and told them basic information about Falun Gong. I told them they should strive to be good and honest. I said, “You can make a living doing anything but this.” They agreed to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party, and I never saw them again.
Several days later, two new agents appeared, and I talked with them also. Then two more appeared, again and again. Over the course of two years, I talked to over 30 people, and no one ever followed me again. It made the 610 Office furious.
When I was arrested in December 2004, plainclothes agents raided my home. At the police station, two officers interrogated me: “This is serious. You'd better cooperate and report everything, otherwise...” I did not reply.
They attempted to deceive me: “Your fellow practitioner stated that you were the one who provided the brochures.” “Really?” I asked. “Who was that? Male or female? How old?” He could not answer. So they got nothing from me.
One officer was furious and began shouting at me: “You're playing games!”
I reminded them of their regulations: “The interrogator should not lose his temper, become irrational, or use force.” They were surprised that I knew all that and admitted they were acting under orders from the 610 Office and that they would not behave that way themselves.
Nevertheless, they held me in a detention center for one month. The day I was released, the officer who handled my case wanted me to sign a guarantee not to practice Falun Gong anymore. I told him, “I did not commit a crime by practicing Falun Gong. It is you people who violate the law. The constitution grants citizens freedom of belief.” I pushed the document away and walked out.
They did not leave me alone and kept harassing me. In the end, they held my son in the police station and told me that I had to show up to sign a document for my son to be released. When I got there, the staff from 610 Office was already there.
The head of the 610 Office said sarcastically, “It is so hard to invite you!” I asked why they hadn't come to my workplace or my home to talk. “Well, we thought it might leave a negative impression.”
“Really? How considerate you are! When you raided my home and took me away, did you think about making a negative impression then, too? When you ordered me to come to the police station, that is a summons, according to the courts. But you have to provide four conditions in order to call me in. Could you tell me which of the four conditions I qualify under?” They were all speechless and left.
Shortly after that, the deputy Party secretary at work told me that staff from the 610 Office wanted to see me. I agreed but said that I only had 30 minutes. I went there 30 minutes early and talked with the deputy secretary. I told him basic information about Falun Gong, the persecution I suffered at the hands of the 610 Office, and how I benefited from my cultivation. He told me that I was a company employee and that they had to respect the company and could not just take me away without notifying the company.
The staff from 610 Office was almost one hour late. By the time they arrived, my wife had called me and said that I needed to come home immediately, that it was an emergency. They tried to stop me, but the deputy secretary told them to let me go. He also told them that if they wanted to talk to me again, they had to come to the company, not order me to the police station. I knew Master was protecting me!
In July 2015, I filed a case against former Chinese Communist Party leader Jiang Zemin with the Supreme People’s Court. A local police officer came to harass me at home and asked me why I filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin.
I responded, “First of all, you are violating the law by asking me such questions. I filed the case with the Supreme Court and the Supreme Procuratorate. You have no right to ask me such questions. Second, the law protects plaintiffs.”
They seemed interested in learning why they were violating the law, so I told them it was a citizen's basic human right. I gave them some basic legal knowledge, as well as information about Falun Gong, the history of the years of persecution, and the number of lives lost.
At the end, they seemed to have learned something and did not insist that I sign the document. They no longer came to harass me.
During the G20 Summit in 2016, a local police officer came to my home and wanted to draw blood from my wife and me. I asked him why. He said he was told it was to establish a national database. I asked him for documentation. He said it was a phone instruction.
I'd clarified the truth to him many times in the past, and he had already withdrawn from the Party. I told him once again that he should not continue to participate in the persecution and that he needed to think about his and his family's future. He eventually understood and left.
Later, whenever something similar came up, he would warn me ahead of time so I could be prepared to clarify the truth to those who came to visit me.
I still have a way to go to catch up with fellow practitioners. I will follow Master, assimilate myself to the Fa, and accomplish my mission.
Please kindly point out shortcomings.
