(Minghui.org) I'm a nurse in a hospital. I began to practice Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) in January 1999. After reading Zhuan Falun, I returned all the medical equipment I had taken home from work over the years, and, until today, I have not taken even a single cotton swab. From then on, I acted according to the teachings of Dafa.
Just over two months after I started to practice Falun Dafa, we were all set up to be appraised at work. Whoever came in first would be promoted and get a pay raise. Every year, I saw my colleagues fight with each other over this, and I thought that must be very tiring. I told myself to let nature take its course rather than fight for a promotion.
In the end, not only did I fail to be rated “excellent,” my assessment was the worst in my department. But I took it lightly and did not complain.
If I wasn't a Falun Dafa practitioner, I would have gone to my superiors and made them re-assess my skills. Many colleagues commented that I had changed since I’d started practicing Falun Dafa. In July, I was told I would be promoted despite the fact that I wasn’t rated “excellent.” My colleagues said I was fortunate.
I knew that, according to the Fa, I had let go of my attachment to personal gain: What's mine would be mine. If something was not mine, I would not get it even if I fought for it!
In July 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to slander Falun Dafa and persecute practitioners.
I tried my best to follow the teachings of Dafa at work. I treated every patient kindly and comforted them as much as I could. When my patients asked how could I always be so kind to others, I took the opportunity to tell them the facts about Falun Dafa. Some of them even decided to recite, “Falun Dafa is good,” and they consequently recovered from their illnesses. Others even protected practitioners from persecution.
Once, I met a man who got dizzy while taking care of his father-in-law in the hospital. He was so sick that he had to lie down. I suggested he recite in his heart, “Falun Dafa is good.” The next day he told me that, after I left, he shouted three times, “Falun Dafa is good,” stood up, and took a walk outside. He was completely fine afterward and amazed by the experience.
On another occasion, a patient's daughter-in-law came to me for help. Her mother-in-law had rectal bleeding. It was a very smelly, messy job, but I helped make her comfortable. Afterward, the doctor told me, “I salute you for what you've done.” In the past I would have been put off by the filth, but now that I am a Falun Gong practitioner, I thought it was the most natural thing to do. Master taught us to put the welfare of others before self.
The next day, the patient's daughter-in-law wanted to give me money. I smiled and declined her offer. I had spoken to the family members on several occasions about the beauty of Falun Dafa. This time they witnessed through my actions what a great practice it is. All of them, about two dozen family members, accepted the truth and agreed to withdraw from the CCP.
Sometimes patients offered me gifts and money as bribes. I politely declined or returned them and took the opportunity to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa. All of them were touched by my honesty.
Soon after I met my husband, my relationship with his family became tense. His sisters and mother liked to pick on me, and I, in turn, refused to give in. The conflict worsened after we got married. In the end, we had no choice but to move out of the house and live away from his family.
Master told us we shouldn't resent others when treated unkindly. Therefore, no matter how critical my mother-in-law was, I did not get upset. Once she was hit by a car. After she returned home from the hospital, I moved into her place to take care of her. I bought medicine to treat her high blood pressure, but she kept complaining that it wasn’t working.
I then discovered that she had not been taking the pills. My first thoughts were: “I go to work, pick up my son from school, and rush home to cook for you. Instead of thanking me, you make things difficult for me.” But then I felt sorry for her; she was gambling with her life. I no longer resented her for treating me badly.
Gradually my mother-in-law changed her attitude towards me. Once she came to visit and apologized for treating me badly. When she became bedridden, I took care of her. She subsequently lost her memory and easily lost her temper with family members. Sometimes she even hit me. Her husband and children found her annoying, but I knew she was tormented by her sickness and forgave her.
After her death, my father-in-law and sisters-in-law decided to give me her jewelry, but I declined and gave it to her two daughters.
I also let go of my enmity towards my husband's sister. When my sister-in-law and her husband worked in a different city, I brought their son to our home on weekends and treated him just like my own child. My sister-in-law and her husband were touched by my actions.
If I had not practiced Falun Dafa, I would have fought with others over small things and given everyone a hard time. Now that I am a practitioner, I’ve learned to deal with conflicts calmly and be considerate of others.
I am grateful to Master for teaching us the Fa. Thank you, Master, for your salvation! You have worked very hard!
