Additional Persecution News from China – May 17, 2016 (28 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 25 cities or counties in 12 provinces. According to this report, 10 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 77 practitioners were illegally arrested.

1. [Wangqing County, Jilin Province] Ms. Teng Kemei and Ms. Guo Yuping Arrested

Ms. Teng Kemei and Ms. Guo Yuping were arrested by Guan Qingyou and officers from the Wangqing Domestic Security Division on May 13, 2016.

2. [Huarong County, Hunan Province] Ms. Bai Lianying Arrested

Ms. Bai Lianying was arrested and taken to Yueyang on the morning of May 16, 2016.

3. [Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Zhang Yalin and Ms. Wang Guizhi Arrested

Mr. Zhang Yalin and Ms. Wang Guizhi from the Zhanhe Forestry Bureau were arrested by officers from the Zhanhe Forestry Bureau 610 Office on May 13, 2016.

4. [Nong'an County, Jilin Province] Mr. Dong Xueshuang Detained

Mr. Dong Xueshuang, from the No. 9 Commune in Huajiaqiao Village, Huajia Township, was arrested at home by officers from the Huajia Police Station on the morning of May 16, 2016. She was held in the Nong'an Detention Center for five days of detention.

5. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Li Ziting Arrested

Mr. Li Ziting was arrested by officers from the Chengguan Police Station when he posted Falun Gong informational signs at noon on May 12, 2016. He was detained for five days in the Nong'an Detention Center.

6. [Jing County, Hebei Province] Mr. Liu Jinqiang Arrested

Mr. Liu Jinqiang was arrested by officers from the Wangqiansi Town Police Station on May 16, 2016.

7. [Yanjin County, Henan Province] Ms. Zhou Fengzhi Taken to Prison

Ms. Zhou Fengzhi was sentenced to three years in prison with three years of probation in 2014. The authorities from the 610 Office, public security, prosecutor, court, and justice organizations in Yanjin County forced Ms. Zhou to sign paperwork on April 28, 2016. Ms. Zhou refused to cooperate. Then she was taken to the Xinxiang City Women's Prison.

8. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Shuzhi Detained

Ms. Wang Shuzhi from Pingdu City was arrested and taken to the Chengguan Police Station by plainclothes officers while she was telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong on May 14, 2016. She is being held in the Pudong Detention Center in Jimo City.

9. [Zhenjiang City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Chen Youping Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Chen Youping was sentenced to four years in prison recently.

10. [Laizhou City, Shandong Province] Mr. Yu Shiqing Detained

Mr. Yu Shiqing from Jincheng Town was arrested by officers from the Jincheng Town Police Department at noon on May 5, 2016 for suing Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party. His home was ransacked. He was taken to the Laizhou City Detention Center that night for five days of detention. He has returned home.

11. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhang Fenglian Detained

Ms. Zhang Fenglian was arrested by plainclothes officers from Erdao District Police Department on the morning of May 12, 2016. The officers confiscated his Falun Gong books, photos of the founder of Falun Gong, a notebook computer, a printer, and over 200 yuan worth of paper bills with Falun Gong information printed on them. Ms. Zhang is held in the Weizigou Detention Center for 15 days of detention.

12. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Liu Shunzhi Arrested

Ms. Liu Shunzhi was arrested by officers from the Zhuodong Police Station when she talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong on May 9, 2016. She was released that night.

13. [Shanghai] Mr. Tu Ming Detained

Mr. Tu Ming was arrested on May 9, 2016. He is held in the Changning District Detention Center. Mr. Tu went on a hunger strikes to protest the persecution. He is bleeding from various parts of his body.

14. [Kuancheng County, Hebei Province] Four Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Zhang Xinying, Ms. Zhang Limei, Mr. Zhang Lijun, and Mr. Jin Deyin were arrested by Ma Fei, deputy head of the Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County Domestic Security Division, and other officers on May 16, 2016.

15. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhang Wenfu Detained

Mr. Zhang Wenfu was arrested by officers from the Kuancheng District Domestic Security Division in the Police Department and the Changxin Street Police Station on March 9, 2016. He is held in the Changchun No. 1 Detention Center.

16. [Zhangqiu City, Shandong Province] Mr. Liu Chuan'en Detained

Mr. Liu Chuan'en from Nanshiwu Village in Duozhuang Town was arrested on the afternoon of May 11, 2016 for suing Jiang Zemin. He was placed under security detention for 10 days.

17. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Ms. Zhang Hongru, Ms. Li Xiujun, and Ms. Wang Jin were arrested by officers from the Jinmenlu Police Station in Shinan District on the afternoon of May 9, 2016. She is held in the Qingdao City No. 3 Detention Center.

18. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced

Ms. Cen Xiaoping was given 6 years, and Mr. Yang Bin and Ms. Ling Honghua each 4 years. They are in the process of appealing their unjust sentence.

All three of them were arrested on March 11, 2015 and sent to Nanshan Detention Center, where they were subjected to both physical and psychological abuse.

Ms. Ling developed tuberculosis and coughed out blood. The police however refused to release her on medical parole. Her husband died on May 6 this year, he was unable to see his wife one last time.

Ms. Cen's mother, 90, was so traumatized that she lost vision in one eye.

19. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] 11 Practitioners Sentenced

Eleven locals were sentenced to prison for filing criminal complaints against Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong.

20. [Yuyao City, Zhejiang Province] Mr. He Xiaobo and Wife Tried

Mr. He Xiaobo and his wife Ms. Luo Xuemei were arrested in May 2015 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.

The couple's practitioner-friends, including Yan Yarong, Qin Lianyu, Zhou Ying, and Yin Guofang, intended to attend the trial on May 6 of this year, but they were seized by police and didn't get released until late that night.

Mr. He and Ms. Luo were both abused in detention. They appeared so weak that their family barely recognized them during the court session. Their lawyers defended their innocence, but the judge adjourned the session without issuing a verdict.

21. [Yongji County, Jilin Province] Five Practitioners Arrested

Five locals were arrested and had their homes ransacked on May 11 for practicing Falun Gong. It is learned that the five practitioners were monitored by police for a long time.

Li Xiuwen and He Changlong are kept at the Jiehe Detention Center, Chen Lijun and Song Chunhua at Shulan City Brainwashing Center, and Lian Jinhua (Mr. He's wife) at Jilin City Detention Center.

22. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Ms. Hou Baoqin Still Detained

The local authorities are keeping Ms. Hou Baoqin detained after the court held three hearings between July and September last year.

Ms. Hou was arrested on March 12, 2015 for practicing Falun Gong. The police put her under criminal detention after several weeks of administrative detention.

Wang Qiang, a judge with the Licang District Court, ordered Qingdao City Third Detention Center to deny Ms. Hou visits with her lawyer, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner.

Ms. Hou's family had no choice but to hire a new lawyer. Ms. Hou told the new lawyer that the judge issued two notices to delay her prosecution, one in late December last year and another one in March of this year.

The lawyer went to submit his application to represent Ms. Hou, but the judge refused to approve his request. He instructed court clerk Guo Gang to tell the lawyer, "We no longer accept your application because the case is already concluded."

When the lawyer asked why there were two notices to delay prosecution if the case was already concluded, Guo did not respond.

The lawyer and Ms. Hou's sister then filed a complaint against Judge Wang for violating legal procedure.

23. [Beijing] Ms. Jia Yuping’s Home Ransacked

Ms. Jia Yuping believes the police may be the perpetrators because the Falun Gong books and portrait of founder of Falun Gong were also missing. A few weeks previously, fellow practitioner Cheng Yufeng's home was ransacked and the police kept asking if she knew where Ms. Jia lived.

The confiscated items include: a computer tower, a laptop, several printers, MP3 player, office supplies, more than 2,000 yuan in cash.

24. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Four Practitioners Appealed

Four practitioners filed appeals after being sentenced to prison for practicing Falun Gong. Xinglongtai District Court held hearings on May 13 to hear the practitioners' arguments, but the judge adjourned the session without issuing a verdict.

Ms. Yang Yuqiong was arrested on July 24, 2014 and sentenced to three years. Mr. Han Chonghui and Ms. Wang Xiuying were both arrested in late 2014. Mr. Han was sentenced to 3.5 years, and Ms. Wang 3 years.

Mr. Yi Tiezheng was arrested on January 10, 2014 and details about his sentencing are still being investigated.

25. [Jiaohe City, Jilin Province] Five Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Yang Rui was ambushed by police on May 11, 2016 as he was entering the apartment building of Ms. Yang Hongyan. The police had confiscated Ms. Yang's house key from her son Mr. Wu Maotian earlier that day. They broke into Ms. Yang's unit and arrested her, her guest Mr. Zhang Shousheng, her son Mr. Wu and his girlfriend Ms. Xia Hui.

Ms. Yang, Mr. Yang, and Mr. Zhang are all Falun Gong practitioners and have been targeted for their faith in the past 16 years. Mr. Wu and Ms. Xia do not practice Falun Gong, but they were not spared either.

The police confiscated Ms. Yang's Falun Gong books, computers, printers, and 600 yuan in cash. They also impounded two cars belonging to her family.

At the time of writing, the three men are held at the Jiehe Detention Center, and the two women at Jilin City Detention Center.

26. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Nearly 30 Practitioners Arrested

Local authorities arrested nearly 30 Falun Gong practitioners between May 11 and 13. Many also had their homes ransacked and valuables confiscated.

Zhang Shousheng, Yang Rui, and Wu Maotian are held in the Jiaohe Detention Center, Yang Hongyan in the Jilin City Detention Center, and Wang Shulan and Zhao Yufen in the Yongji County Detention Center

The locations where following practitioners are being detained is still being investigated: Lian Jinhua, He Changlong, Li Xiuwen, Song Chunhua, Chen LijunLi Shigang, Piao Zhe, Yu Haixin, Li Chunqing, Zhao Yanqiu, Fu Guiqiu, Teng, Zhao, Li, Yu, Luan, Wang Shulan, Zhao Yufen, and Cao Yuqin.

Mr. Li Shigang was beaten so badly in detention that he suffered severe leg injuries. He still cannot walk by himself even after he was released.

Liu Shufang and Wang Yanhong have been released home.

27. [Sanhe City, Hebei Province] Four Practitioners Original Sentences Held

Langfang City Intermediate Court instructed Sanhe City Court to hold a hearing on May 13 to announce its decision in the appeal case of four locals sentenced to prison last November.

No defense lawyers were allowed in the hearing, and Judge Chen Keqiang quickly read the verdict - the higher court ruled in favor of the original sentences.

Mr. Wang Zhanqing, Ms. Wen Jie, and Mr. Ma Weishan were each given five years, and Mr. Kang Jingtai, three years with a three-year probation.

Mr. Wang and Ms. Wen are currently held in the Sanhe City Detention Center, while Mr. Ma and Mr. Kang are under house arrest due to health problems. It is not clear when they will be taken to prison.

28. [Jiange County, Sichuan Province] Ms. Lei Yanhua Tried

Ms. Lei Yanhua, 61-year-old retiree from Chengdu, was tried on May 5 for practicing Falun Gong. She was arrested while visiting a friend in Jiange on February 10. She believes she was followed because she continue to practice Falun Gong.

Her lawyer defended her constitutional right to freedom of belief and also emphasized the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong lacks legal basis as there is no law in China that criminalizes the practice.

Ms. Lei also testified that the police chief held his gun to her head to threaten her following her arrest. She pointed out that she caused no harm by practicing Falun Gong and should be acquitted.

The judge adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict.
