Shanghai Woman Sentenced for Her Faith, Hospitalized Months Later

June 30, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shanghai

(Minghui.org) Ms. Cao Yueling was sentenced to four and a half years in prison on March 25 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

The Shanghai resident’s family learned on June 22 that she had been transferred to Shanghai Prison Hospital for medical treatment. Ms. Cao, 37, was still in very good health less than one month ago, according to the representatives who visited her family on May 23 to inform them of her upcoming transfer to a different facility.

The authorities, however, have refused to disclose what happened to her that led to her sudden hospitalization or provide updates on her condition.

Ms. Cao’s latest prison sentence followed her second arrest on April 2, 2015. She was first arrested in November 2012 and sentenced to three years of probation.

Her ex-husband divorced her in October 2014 for fear of being implicated by her practice of Falun Gong. She was given sole custody of their twin sons, who are now in the care of her relatives as she serves time for exercising her constitutional right to freedom of belief.
