Why Some Practitioners Are Unable to Cultivate Diligently

June 28, 2016 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) I, along with some of my fellow Falun Gong practitioners, have become unconscionably lax during this final phase of cultivation. The following are a few reasons why I think we are not being as diligent as we can and should be.

Losing Our Initial Enthusiasm to Cultivate Diligently

Many practitioners were very enthusiastic about practicing Falun Gong when they first started. They each had good inborn qualities which Master Li had reinforced. However, when faced with difficult challenges, many failed to see themselves as cultivators.

Although Master can assist us with any and all aspects of our cultivation, we must first do our part in handling well everything within our capabilities.

Millions of people were initially drawn to Falun Gong for health reasons, or because they sought after the good fortune that cultivation practice brings to its practitioners. However, this is a selfish mindset which was formed over countless lifetimes, and is exactly what cultivation strives to eliminate.

We know from Master Li's teachings that the primary cause of a person's illness is karma rooted in other dimensions. Where did this karma come from? From past wrongdoings on our part, based on selfishness.

This selfishness is a material substance that permeates every dimensional level in the cosmos. In order to raise our level and meet the standard of the new cosmos, we must first rid ourselves of our innate selfishness.

When I find myself cultivating halfheartedly, it is mainly due to my inability to let go of my human desires, attachments, self interest, and notions, essentially my human selfishness.

I think this is one of the reasons why some practitioners who failed to pass huge tests while being persecuted in China, now find it difficult to advance solidly.

What It Takes to Cultivate Diligently

First and foremost, we must truly desire to change our human mindset. Without sincerity, one will not be able to advance along this path of cultivation.

Master taught us:

“Sincerity is a prerequisite if you are to rectify your mind.” (Falun Gong)

In addition, our practice cultivates man's main consciousness, so we must knowingly and consciously face the hardships that we encounter. If we only seek comfort, aren't we the same as ordinary people?

We must also be very strict with ourselves in order to break free of our human mindsets. If we don't hold ourselves to a high standard, we will inevitably waver on the path of cultivation.

Lastly, we must know in our hearts that failing to meet the standard of a Fa-rectification disciple is not a viable option. Dafa practitioners must cultivate to success, must fulfill their historic vows to Master, and must save the sentient beings that they promised to save.

As I see it, cultivation is like riding a boat against the current. If we don't keep forging ahead, we will be swept away in the current.

In true cultivation, you cannot adopt a “wait-and-see” attitude: “I’ll cultivate myself well if I'm sure to succeed.”

Only by improving one's character can one make true progress in cultivation.
