Prison Officials Extort Money from Family of 70-Year-Old Woman Serving 13-Year Prison Term for Her Faith

December 16, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Fei Shuqin was sentenced to 13 years in prison in 2013 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. The prison officials harassed her family when they visited her this year.

The prison officials asked the family members for money when they visited them in September 2016, claiming that it was needed for her operation.

The family refused. The officers said that Ms. Fei has fibroids. They had asked them for money several times, and the family had paid them 1000 yuan. The prison officials said that the family had themselves to blame if they did not pay this time.

The family argued with them, and were accused of creating a disturbance. They were thus denied visitation. However, the family followed the crowd of visitors and got in. On their way out, a female plainclothes officer came and talked with them. She blamed them for the disturbances. The family argued with her.

The guards pushed them and yelled, “Get out!”

Ms. Fei's daughter met with the manager of the prison department in the city. He promised to report the case to higher authorities.
