Illegally Arrested and Imprisoned, Ms. Yang Zhaoying Risks Leg Amputation

(Minghui.org) Ms. Yang Zhaoying, 37, works as a translator and is fluent in Chinese, Japanese, and English. She was illegally arrested four times and imprisoned for seven years for her belief in Falun Gong.

Latest Arrest and Detention

Ms. Yang was arrested at home by officers from the Dalian State Security Bureau on July 24, 2015. The police ransacked her home and confiscated Falun Gong books, a computer, cell phone, and other personal belongs. They also refused to tell Ms. Yang's family and lawyer why she was arrested.

Her leg that was injured in 2001 was injured again when the police pulled her into a police car.

She was taken to the Yaojia Detention Center, where Ms. Yang was beaten by criminal inmates for refusing to wear the facility uniform.

When Ms. Yang was released on August 21, 2015, she was immediately transferred to the Dalian Drug Rehabilitation Center for brainwashing. There, she was told she needed surgery on her right leg, or it might have to be amputated. To avoid responsibility for Ms. Yang's condition, officials at the brainwashing center released her the next day.

Bachelors Degree Revoked

After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Yang went to Tiananmen Square to peacefully protest for the right to practice Falun Gong. When she called out, “Falun Dafa is good!” she was detained and her bachelors degree was revoked by the university.

Ms. Yang was arrested again in 2001 and taken to a police station. She jumped out of a window to escape and injured herself. She became temporarily paralyzed from the waist down.

Ms. Yang was arrested again in February 2008, and sentenced to seven years in Liaoning Women’s Prison. She had difficulty walking after being tortured and had to be transferred to the prison ward for the elderly and disabled inmates.

Fiancé Arrested Before Wedding

Ms. Yang was going to marry a Falun Gong practitioner. The night before their wedding, the police arrested her fiancé and sentenced him to seven years in prison.

Background

Ms. Yang began to practice Falun Gong when she was in high school. Her health, temperament, and physical appearance improved as a result of the practice.

She passed the college entrance examination and was accepted by Dalian University of Foreign Languages at the age of 19 to study English and Japanese.

After Ms. Yang was released from prison in 2001, she did the Falun Gong exercises at home and was able to eventually able stand up and walk again without any medical treatment.
