(Minghui.org) I am 69 years old. I had several ailments including chronic bronchitis before I started practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. Due to financial limitations, I couldn't seek medical treatment and was resentful. But deep in my heart, I knew that my life would change for the better.
I lost my mother when I was little, so I often went to play with other kids at an elderly neighbor's house. The old lady once told us about cultivation and how people have been striving for enlightenment since long ago. She asked us if any one of us thought we could cultivate.
I didn't exactly understand what she meant, but I blurted out, "I could!" Recalling that incident now, I realize that I was predestined and have been waiting lifetime after lifetime to cultivate in Dafa.
In 1996, one of my relatives recommended Falun Dafa to me. I took her advice after learning about the many health benefits. I started to watch Master's Fa lectures that evening and was greatly enlightened by his teachings in Zhuan Falun.
Master said in Zhuan Falun,
“Ordinary human affairs, according to the Buddha School, all have predestined relationships. Birth, old age, illness, and death exist in this way for everyday people. Because of karma created from past wrongdoings, one has illnesses or tribulations; suffering is repaying a karmic debt, and thus nobody can casually change this. Changing it means that one would not have to repay the debt after being in debt, and this cannot be done at will. Doing otherwise is the same as committing a bad deed.”
“Why can this be done for a cultivator, then? It is because a cultivator is most precious, for he or she wants to cultivate. Therefore, developing this thought is most precious.”
“In order to cure their illnesses or eliminate tribulations and karma, these people must cultivate and return to their original, true selves.”
The more of Master's Fa lectures I listened to, the more steadfast I became in my will to cultivate. I realized after a few lectures that Dafa was what I had been waiting for.
Seven days after I took up Dafa, all of my ailments disappeared. I could not believe it.
“I am saved. Falun Gong saved me. Master saved me!” I exclaimed through happy tears.
My whole family was very happy for me. They said, “Wow! Falun Dafa is wonderful! It is miraculous!”
I have bettered myself through cultivation. I now know how to be a good person and why I should be one. Whatever I say or do, I make sure to follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and put others before myself. Because of these positive changes, people in my village began to take an interest in Dafa.
Our village supervisor usually collects corn money from corn buyers to distribute it to us farmers. On one occasion, our village supervisor gave my family 400 yuan more than our share.
The next day, I told him that he had given us the wrong amount.
Before I could finish, he interrupted me and yelled, “If it was not the right amount, why didn't you say so yesterday?”
I smiled at him and said, “Yes, there was a mistake--you gave me 400 extra yuan.”
Astonished, he stared at me and said, “You are really a good person. When I accidentally give other households extra, they never give the money back. In fact, they yell at me if I try to get it back.”
When my son asked my daughter to put his name on her high school diploma in order to get better pay for a job, I did not approve of the scheme. We told him that deception would put him on the same level as a Chinese Communist Party member.
I established a new Fa-study group at my home when our original one outgrew its location. My husband and I borrowed some money to buy a tape recorder for us to use.
It was early spring when he went to buy it--a time when the ice is just starting to break up. On his way home, my husband took a false step while crossing a frozen river and fell in. He saw a man walking by and asked him for help, but the man ignored him and walked away.
My husband went out on another errand the next day and saw that this same person had fallen into the same river. My husband pulled him out.
Embarrassed, the man said, “Your are a much better person than I am.”
My husband replied, “I only did this because my wife practices Falun Dafa. She conducts herself according to 'Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,' and I have learned from her to be a good person.”
On another occasion, I got a 50-yuan counterfeit bill in change. Instead of returning the bill, my husband and I decided to burn it so that no one else would be cheated by it.
My husband said, “Master Li teaches us to be good people. We should truly follow his teachings.”
