Daughter Arrested for Appealing Mother's Prison Sentence

May 27, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Zhejiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wu Lianfen was illegally sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison on October 29, 2014, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Her daughter tried to appeal her sentencing, but was arrested and held at a detention center.

Chief He, head of the Leqing City Domestic Security Division, tried to stop Ms. Wu's daughter from appealing her case by threatening her brother, “Tell your niece to pull herself together, and not try anything smart. We know she gave out our phone numbers. We can arrest her at any time.”

When Ms. Wu's brother told his niece about Chief He's threat, she replied, “I haven't done anything wrong or broken the law. How can they arrest me!”

A month later, about five plainclothes officers ransacked Ms. Wu's daughter's workplace and arrested her without a search warrant. They took her to the Hongqiao Town Police Station first before transferring her to a detention center. She was released 29 days later due to “unclear facts or insufficient evidence.”

Mother Imprisoned for Raising Awareness

Ms. Wu was arrested on May 27, 2014, for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was transferred to a detention center the next day. She was brutally beaten there, closely monitored, and forced to sit with her legs crossed for a long period of time. As a result, she could not walk normally.

Ms. Wu was tried on October 14, 2014, in the Leqing City Court. She had difficulty walking, was emaciated, and had lost 40 pounds after four-and-a-half months of detention. She was transferred to Zhejiang Women's Prison on February 3, 2015.

Ms. Wu owned a small store in Hongqiao Town, Leqing City. After she began practicing Falun Gong, she takes personal gain lightly, and is considerate of others.
