Elderly Mother Brutalized While Trying to Stop Police from Arresting Daughter

March 24, 2015 |   By a Minghui Correspondent from Tianjin

(Minghui.org) More than twenty officers broke into a private home in Tianjin on March 2 while the owners' daughter Ms. Song Huichan was taking care of her 2-year-old grandson.

Ms. Song's 83-year-old mother held tightly onto the door trying to block the police from taking her daughter and great-grandson away. Two officers pried her hand off the door frame, cutting her left forefinger and middle finger and leaving a one-inch long laceration.

Without showing any ID or a search warrant, the police arrested Ms. Song and confiscated her computer, cell phone, flash drives and house keys.

When questioned by Ms. Song's 85-year-old father, the police blurted out, "[We arrested her] because she still practices Falun Gong."

Ms. Song's son went to the police department later that day to inquire about her situation. The police not only threatened to arrest him, but also denied their involvement in his mother's arrest.

The family didn't find out Ms. Song's detention location until four days later, but the authorities refused to grant a face-to-face visit. Guards at Zhaojiachi Detention Center simply told the family to leave the clothes they packed for Ms. Zhao at the gate.

The police informed Ms. Song's family on March 16 that she was under “criminal detention,” but they didn't provide any legal documentation to that effect.

Ms. Song was not the only Falun Gong practitioner arrested on March 2. The police in Tianjin seized more than twenty other practitioners that same day. Zhao Fei, chief of Tianjin Police Department, promised a 10,000-yuan reward to his officers for each arrested Falun Gong practitioner.

Ms. Song's latest arrest was her third for refusing to give up her belief in Falun Gong. She spent 15 months in a forced labor camp from 2004 to 2005, during which time her workplace fired her under pressure from local authorities. She went on to live with her parents and became their caregiver after her release. In 2006, Tianjin police arrested her again and detained her for 15 days.
