Unable to Convict Practitioners, Judge Defers to City Officials

December 17, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Three Falun Gong practitioners were tried in Sichuan Province for distributing DVDs to inform the public of the Communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong.

Weiyuan Court in Neijiang City tried Huang Shengkui (黄盛奎), Liu Jianping (刘建平) and Liu Guirong (刘翠容) on December 3, 2014. The practitioners maintain that they did not break any laws by giving out the DVDs.

The presiding judge first claimed that the central government had deemed Falun Gong a “cult” in 1999, but he was unable to produce a legal basis for the claim when pressed by the defense.

The judge then asked whether the practitioners had obtained a license to copy the DVDs. The practitioners replied that the question was irrelevant, as it was not a commercial operation.

The judge finally conceded, “I can't determine whether your actions constituted a crime. I'll have to report your case to city government officials,” and adjourned the hearing.

The three practitioners were arrested by Domestic Security police on July 5-6, 2014 and are held in Weiyuan Detention Center and Neijiang Detention Center.
