A Dozen Falun Gong Practitioners Hunger Strike at Fushun No. 2 Detention Center to Protest Persecution

June 26, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) A dozen Falun Gong practitioners including Yang Lihua, who are illegally detained at Fushun No. 2 Detention Center, are currently on a hunger strike to protest their persecution. They have refused to cooperate with the prison. They are now in life threatening situations due to abuse and torture, with Zhang Jie and Luo Xiujie's conditions being the most severe.

Detained for More than 40 Days--Home Ransacked

On April 23, 2013, a group of unlawful regime agents led by Peng Yue, the head of Fushun Domestic Security Division, ransacked Ms. Yang Lihua's home in Wanghua District of Fushun City. Her wage card, bank card, bank deposit book, and cash was taken, and most of her personal belongings, including a computer, printer, mp3 player, cell phone, and e-book were looted. Ms. Yang has been locked-up in the Fushun No. 2 Detention center for over 40 days. She is now on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

Ms. Yang Lihua, 59, began practicing Falun Dafa in 1998. Prior to cultivating, she suffered from various illnesses, including headaches and ovary inflammation. Shortly after she started cultivation practice, these conditions disappeared.

Ms. Yang was taken into custody in January 2002, and sentenced to three years of forced labor, for publicly posting information that clarified the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution.

Ms.Yang was surrounded by several officers at the Wanghua Police Department, who asked her where she got the materials, where she lived, and so on. Ms. Yang did not say a word. She was transferred to Jianshe Police Station later that evening. Officers went to her house and confiscated her Dafa books, a portrait of the founder of Falun Gong, and tape player. Ms. Lang was interrogated by the deputy head and other officers until past midnight. She was sent to Fushun City Detention Center the next day, where she was imprisoned for 15 days. She was then transferred to Wujiapu Forced Labor Camp in Fushun and incarcerated for three years.

While imprisoned, Ms. Yang was forced to sit on a small stool and recite prison rules. If she did not comply, she was made to stand for long hours as punishment. She was also forced to stand for spending a little more time in the restroom. After being tortured for nearly a year, Ms. Yang developed symptoms including dizziness and high blood pressure. Her weight plummeted from over 154 to 110 lbs. The labor camp was afraid that they would be held responsible for her condition, so after extorting 2000 yuan from her family, she was allowed to return home. Her husband and daughter had to support her as she was too weak to walk.

A Dozen Practitioners Detained and Persecuted at Fushun City No. 2 Detention Center

To protest their wrongful treatment, Fushun practitioners Zhang Jie, Yang Lihua, Luo Xiujie, along with Qingyuan practitioners Gai Yongjie, Liu Liying, and Xinbin practitioners Shang Liping and others, started a hunger strike. As a result, all of them are in poor health, with Zhang Jie and Luo Xiujie's condition being most critical. The detention center tried to send some of these practitioners to prison on several occasions, but they were rejected due to their poor health. Yet the detention center still refuses to release them.

Zhang Jie lives in Wanghua District, Fushun City. She was arrested at home by Zhang Zhongsheng, the deputy head of Heping Police Station, and two plainclothes officers on October 11, 2012. They took her to Nangou Detention Center in Fushun City, and formally issued arrest documents on October 24. Ms. Zhang has been detained for eight months and is now on a hunger strike to protest the unjust treatment. She is now in critical condition.

Ms. Luo Xiujie, 53, was arrested at home on April 15, 2012. Directed by deputy head of the provincial police department, led by Yang Wenjun, the head of Fushun City Police Department, and Peng Yue, the head of the domestic security division, two dozen officers forcibly entered her home and arrested both her and her husband. The premises was ransacked and 15,000 yuan was stolen. Ms. Luo is currently detained at Fushun City No. 2 Detention Center, where she has been on a hunger strike. She is currently in very poor health. Ms. Luo's attorney obtained details on her case in February 2013, and it was discovered that the authorities had sentenced her in a secret trial. The Dongzhou District Court recently ruled that Ms. Luo's trial was invalid, and the case will soon be retried in Wanghua District Court. The presiding judge is Jin Qian.
