A Good Daughter Sentenced to Three Years

June 25, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) The elderly woman hugged her daughter and sobbed so hard she could hardly talk. With tears in her eyes, her daughter, Wang Xinyan, said, “Ma, don't worry about me. Please take good care of dad. I have done nothing wrong. I'm a good person. What kind of justice system sends innocent people to jail?” Several police officers standing nearby looked uneasy, some lowered their heads, and others looked the other way.

The above took place at the trial of Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Xinyan and Ms. Wang Fenghua on the afternoon of January 8, 2013, at Renqiu Court, Hebei Province. Before the formal hearing began, the judge allowed 15 minutes for Wang Xinyan’s family members to try to persuade her to give up Falun Gong. Ms. Wang refused: “What do they want me to give up? Being a good person who follows Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is not a crime!”

Ms. Wang Xinyan and Ms. Wang Fenghua were arrested for distributing Falun Gong materials in Bai Village on the morning of October 15, 2012. The police ransacked their homes and took them to Renqiu City Detention. Ms. Wang Xinyan has refused to answer any of their questions.

Ms. Wang Xinyan defended her innocence at the trial. Her mother also hired a lawyer.

After the hearing, Ms. Wang Xinyan’s mother begged Judge Guo Zhimei to release her, because she was her elderly father's caretaker. Judge Guo shouted angrily, “Look at your daughter’s attitude!” and stomped out.

On May 17, 2013, the court announced Ms. Wang Xinyan's sentence: three years. She immediately appealed. Her mother also requested her daughter’s release, but to no avail.

Life Renewed after Practicing Falun Gong

After graduating from Harbin Institute of Technology, Ms. Wang Xinyan and her husband opened their business in Shenzhen. They had a comfortable life and a lovely daughter. But Ms. Wang’s health began to decline. She was diagnosed with a number of diseases; she could not even sit still and was fatigued all the time. As a result, she could hardly do household chores or work. They had to hire a housekeeper. No amount of money can buy good health. She felt miserable.

In the beginning of 1999, Ms. Wang Xinyan learned Falun Gong, and her life changed. She followed Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in her daily life, became unselfish, and always tried to improve her own behavior when conflicts arose. She regained her health and her family was happy. She said, “I owe my life to Falun Dafa, and I wholeheartedly thank Master for my new life.”

Family Torn Apart

After the regime banned Falun Gong in July 1999, Ms. Wang traveled to Beijing to appeal. She was arrested and sent back to Shenzhen. Later she distributed truth clarification materials and was arrested again. In October 2005, she was sent to Sanshui Forced Labor Camp and served a three-year term. In January 2009 at the end of her term, she was sent to Shenzhen City Legal Education Center (actually a brainwashing center). After a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention, Ms. Wang became very weak and thin. In order to keep Ms. Wang in custody, Nanshan District 610 Office head Wang Li took her to Sheko Hospital. When Ms. Wang’s mother saw her daughter in a wheelchair and how she could hardly stand up, she began to cry and could not stop for a long time.

After years of intense pressure, Ms. Wang’s husband divorced her, and a once happy family was destroyed.

A Good Daughter and an Honest Person

After the divorce, Ms. Wang returned to her parents’ home at Renqiu. Her father, in his 70s, was paralyzed, and her mother was too old to care for her husband. Ms. Wang Xinyan became her father's main caretaker. She did her best to be a good daughter. All the neighbors recognized her merit and loyalty to her family.

The regime did not stop harassing her. Shenzhen 610 Office once sent people to Renqiu, trying to arrest her again. Their attempt failed when Ms. Wang’s mother and neighbors showed up to prevent them.
