(Minghui.org) Ms. Bai Qun went to Beijing on March 11, 2013 to appeal the unjust treatment of her husband, Mr. Li Hongkui, who died as a result of being persecuted in Daqing Prison. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agents brutally dragged her into a car and sent her back to Harbin, in Heilongjiang Province. Ms. Bai launched a hunger strike to protest her detention in the Harbin Administrative Detention Center.

Mr. Li Hongkui was an engineer at Harbin City Post Office. He had been arrested three times for practicing Falun Gong, and was imprisoned for more than nine years in Daqing Prison. He died on August 28, 2012, right before his prison term was to expire. His family has been harassed by CCP agents.

Detained and Mistreated for Appealing the Injustice in Beijing

Mr. Li Hongkui's wife, 61-year-old Ms. Bai, visited the Appeals Office of the Department of Justice in Beijing on March 12. The office employee told her to go to the Procuratorate. When Ms. Bai told him the Procuratorate had refused to create a case, he insisted that she still needed to go to the Procuratorate.

When Ms. Bai went to the National Appeals Office that day, a security guard asked her what she needed. She said she needed to talk to the office about injustice against her husband. The security guard sent her to Fuyou Street Police Station instead. After taking her name and address, they sent her to Majialou Transition Station. Upon hearing her case, the station employee refused to register it, and told her to return to Harbin.

By evening, the entire roomful of people who had come to appeal had been sent off, and only a few people were still there. A group of CCP agents came and dragged Ms. Bai across the floor. One person who was there to appeal asked, “How can you treat an elderly lady like that?” As the agents continued to drag Ms. Bai, some of them beat the person who spoke out.

Ms. Bai was dragged out of the appeals office and into a car at around 9:30 p.m. on March 12. The car drove to Harbin during the night. Upon arriving in Harbin, Ms. Bai was first taken to Daoli District Branch of the Police Department (on March 13), and was then detained for the night at Anjing Police Station.

Ms. Bai was sent to a hospital for a physical examination on March 14. She failed the physical exam and the hospital gave her a hospitalization notice based on her poor health. However, she was detained for another five days at the police station.

After she was sent to a detention center, she was given another physical exam. The report said her blood count was extremely low. Her blood sugar level was 18.3 and her blood pressure was 165/85. The detention center continued to detain Ms. Bai despite her poor condition. Ms. Bai's son Li Xuan requested that she be released, but the center refused.

Ms. Bai worked as a dentist for more than thirty years. Because she was exposed to mercury at work, she suffered from mercury poisoning, and her liver, kidney, heart, optic nerves, throat, and gums were seriously damaged. She had to rely on special care.

Threatened for Seeking Justice for Husband's Death

After her husband died from persecution, Ms. Bai tried to seek justice from Daqing Prison, the City Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, the City Justice Department, and other related government offices. Her request for investigation was passed around without action, and she was threatened.

Ms. Bai and her son were placed under house arrest for more than twenty days during the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party. The local 610 Office, residential office, police, and Health Bureau monitored them and warned them that they would be arrested if they tried to go out. She and her son were living in terror, and Ms. Bai felt she had reached her limit of endurance.

She was followed by three people even when she went to a hospital.

Desperate, Ms. Bai went to Beijing to appeal and ended up being detained and accused of “affecting normal work order of national offices.”
