(Minghui.org) State-run media in China provided a one-sentence announcement of an investigation into the affairs of Li Dongsheng, the Chinese Communist Party's vice minister of public security and director of the 610 Office. The announcement mentions corruption and abuse of power, and came on December 20.
The announcement is widely interpreted as a prelude to the downfall of Zhou Yongkang, the former head of China's security apparatus and member of the CCP's Politburo Standing Committee. Li is believed to be a close protégé of Zhou, having been elevated by Zhou to his current position in 2009.
According to recent media reports in China, Zhou is being investigated for corruption in a state-owned oil company and abuse of political power. The public has been told that he and his family are guilty of graft for multibillion-dollar ill-gotten gains.
Rumors of Zhou's arrest (or house arrest) now seem more credible after official news of the investigation into Li Dongsheng.
Zhou's downfall follows the arrest and sentencing of Bo Xilai earlier this year. Bo, a former CCP hotshot and Zhou's close ally, was charged with corruption of bribery and abuse of power.
Through these cases, the CCP has tried to paint the picture of a campaign to rid the government of serious corruption. However, the regime has left out key facts related to Zhou's and his gang's crimes of persecuting Falun Gong—especially their roles in organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners for profit.
Li Dongsheng was the director of the 610 Office, an extralegal police task force responsible for carrying out the mission of eliminating Falun Gong. The 610 Office agents abduct Falun Gong practitioners from their homes and take them straight to brainwashing centers or forced labor camps without any due process.
According to ABC News, Li “moved to the body overseeing film, television and radio, before becoming a vice minister of propaganda in 2002, less than three years after the banning of Falun Gong. In that role, he persistently defended China's crackdown on the group that once boasted millions of members and was viewed by former president and party leader Jiang Zemin as a personal attack on his power.”
The Minghui website has intensively reported how Bo Xilai was involved in the persecution of Falun Gong in Dalian and Chongqing cities. Some related articles can be viewed here:

State-run media in China have reported that Zhou is being investigated, but failed to mention anything about his, and his cohorts', complicity in the persecution of Falun Gong.
Zhou was instrumental in the promotions of both Bo and Li. His own career was also built on persecuting Falun Gong.
Because of Zhou's so-called “stellar” performance in implementing the persecution during his post as secretary of the Sichuan Province Party Committee between 1999 and 2002, he was promoted to deputy director of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) and head of the Ministry of Public Security without any prior experience in public security.
Under Zhou, the style and operations of the system rapidly turned into that of the mafia. The PLAC staff at every level were at the forefront of executing persecution orders, which most of time came verbally from Zhou and then cascaded down to all levels of government.
These orders exerted direct impact on the persecution and have caused harm to hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners and their families, friends and colleagues. Thousands of practitioners have been tortured to death as the pawns of the Communist Party tried to force them to renounce their belief in Falun Gong. As of today, the number of confirmed deaths amounts to 3,731; many times more that number are suspected.
The PLAC has also been actively involved in the crimes of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.
A disguised phone call to Li Changchun, member of the Politburo Standing Committee and former Party chief of Guangdong Province, revealed that Zhou Yongkang was in charge of the scheme to harvest organs from Falun Gong practitioners. The phone call was conducted as part of the investigation by WOIPFG (the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong). It was made in the name of the chief of Luo Gan's office; Luo Gan is a former member of the Politburo Standing Committee.
Another disguised phone call was made directly to Zhou. During this call, Zhou did not deny the existence of secret jails for Falun Gong practitioners. He just insisted on talking about it over a secure line. This call from WOIPFG was made in the name of Li Chuncheng, the Party chief of Sichuan Province.
According to a recently published report by Amnesty International, forced labor camps in China have played a key role in the persecution of Falun Gong. Much of this occurred under Zhou's reign. The report points out that careers of labor camp officials have been directly linked to their “performance” in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Such a persecution campaign utilizes tens of thousands of local officials to control people's minds and torture innocent citizens for their spiritual beliefs, rather than engage in crime control.
Earlier this month, 300 brave citizens in China signed a joint letter, calling for the investigation of Zhou Yongkang's main crime: organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.
Although still covered up by the communist regime, more and more people are becoming aware of Zhou's and his gang's crimes of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Some Chinese have chosen to speak up against the injustice. Earlier this month, 300 citizens inside China jointly signed a public letter, calling for the investigation of Zhou Yongkong regarding his role in organ harvesting and persecution of Falun Gong.
On December 10, the International Human Rights Day, a petition with 1.5 million signatures collected from more than 50 countries was submitted to the United Nations to call for the end of organ harvesting in China.
With the downfall of Zhou's gang, more facts regarding the persecution of Falun Gong will be revealed. The accountability has already reached the ranks of high-level CCP officials. The evidence will eventually point to Jiang Zemin, the former communist leader and Zhou's boss, who instigated the persecution of Falun Gong back in 1999.
