Hebei Province Businessman Harassed, Arrested, His Vehicles and Equipment Taken

November 03, 2013 |

(Minghui.org) Mr. Liu Zhihui is a Falun Gong practitioner in Li County, Hebei Province. In 2009, he started a small business in Anguo County. However, because of the persecution of Falun Gong, the police have constantly harassed him and taken merchandise from his store. Mr. Liu was forced to leave his home in order to avoid the constant harassment and threat of arrest.

Arrested in Anguo County by Li County Police

Mr. Liu's wife returned to her hometown to pay tribute to her deceased parents. The police followed her and found her husband. Around 6 p.m. on August 25, 2013, Mr. Liu Zhihui was fixing a neighbor's roof in Anping County. On his way to buy tools, he was illegally arrested by Li County 610 Office and Domestic Security Division personnel. He called his family and told them that he was in a police station and could not return home.

After being detained all day in the Li County Detention Center, Mr. Liu Zhihui was taken to the Boye Detention Center.

Mother-in-law's Courage

Mr. Liu's mother-in-law went to the Xiaochen Police Station and demanded that he be released. Wei Jie, head of the police station, said, “You should go to the Anguo Police Department. They arrested him.” She said, “At least you should return the bike he was using. The owner asked my daughter for it. Why are you holding their bike?” She asked several times before Wei Jie took the key out of his locker and said, “It's parked in Anping. Go get it yourself!” When she went there, she was told that the daily fee to park the bike was 12 yuan. She said to Wei Jie angrily, “If you waited longer to return the key, the parking fee would have been more than the bike is worth.”

On September 3, 2013, Anguo Police Department officers told Mr. Liu's family that if they paid 10,000 yuan, he would be released. They said that if they couldn't pay, he might not be released. His family tried their best but only managed to collect 2,900 yuan from relatives and friends before the Anguo Police Department agreed to release him.

When his family picked Mr. Liu up from the Boye Detention Center, they saw that he had difficulty walking. Mr. Liu's mother-in-law angrily shouted at the guards, “How did he get like this? He was very healthy when he came in. Is this the 'harmonious society' you keep talking about?” She went back to Xiaochen Police Station and questioned Wei Jie, “What did my son-in-law do wrong? Why did you arrest him? His son is 20 years old and about to get married. You've been persecuting him and he doesn't have a place to stay. He only does some small business to survive but you still won't leave him alone.”

Previously Arrested and Harassed

Mr. Liu Zhihui has been harassed many times under the persecution. He used to have a business selling office supplies. On September 23, 2009, the Domestic Security Division arrested him and took 8,960 yuan. They towed away his white sedan and a minivan. They also arrested his cashier, Cui Hu, and took nearly 10,000 yuan from him. They also took 440 yuan that was on the counter.

Other items stolen by the police included three computers, 15 used printers, a brand new printer, a headlamp, a cell phone charger, a satellite receiver, a welder, two soldering stations, an electronic dictionary, five sets of pens, a phone book, a business card holder, a cell phone, and an electric bike.

Mr. Liu managed to escape the day after his arrest, but he had to leave home to avoid further persecution. Although his parents were home, he couldn't go back to visit them. The police never gave up searching for Mr. Liu. Zhang Yuexian, head of the 610 Office, often asked the head of Daliu Village where he was. Domestic Security Division and Li County 610 Office personnel monitored his family's activities. They even hired spies to monitor whether Mr. Liu returned home or not.

Even though this was a case that originated in Anguo County, Zhang Yuexian, who was head of the Li County 610 Office, still kept monitoring Mr. Liu. After Mr. Liu was arrested, Domestic Security Division, Xiaochen Police Station and 610 Office personnel were afraid that Falun Gong practitioners would demand his release. They tried to send Mr. Liu to Anguo County. However, the police from Anguo County refused to accept him. They were afraid that the WOIPF (World Organization to Investigate The Persecution of Falun Gong) would investigate them for assisting the Chinese Communist Party to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. So they told the Li County 610 Office that Mr. Liu was from Li County and they did not accept him.
