Ms. Lu Mengjun and Mr. Liu Liyan were distributing truth-clarification materials in Daolin Town, Ningxiang County, Hunan Province, on the morning of September 1, 2013. Officials from Changsha City 610 Office ordered the police from the Shitan Police Station and the Shebu Police Station in Xiangtan County to arrest them. They were illegally arrested in Shebu Town, Xiangtan County.

Two days later, officers from the Changsha City 610 Office and the police station ransacked Ms. Lu's home and stole money from the home. They told her parents that she was held in the Ningxiang County Detention Center.

When Ms. Lu's mother and sister went to the detention center to visit her, they were told that she was not there. Ms. Lu's whereabouts are unknown.

Sentenced to Four Years in Prison and Suffered Brutal Torture

Prior to Ms. Lu's recent arrest, Ms. Lu and Mr. Lu Songming were distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in Shuangfeng County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province on February 4, 2007. Someone who believed the Chinese regime's propaganda about Falun Gong reported them to the authorities, and they were arrested by the police.

A trial was held in the Shuangfeng County Court for both practitioners on June 5, 2007. Four of Ms. Lu's family members and a fellow practitioner, Mr. Liu Heqing, had planned to go to the courthouse. However, they were stopped by the police on their way to court and forced to go back home. The police then ransacked their home for two hours and confiscated Falun Gong books, informational materials and other personal items. They also threatened Ms. Lu's mother and forced her to sign the paperwork for the items that were confiscated. They then took her to the police station for further interrogation. She was released at around 5:00 p.m. the same day.

Ms. Lu was sentenced to four years in prison. She was first imprisoned in the Shuangfeng Prison in Hunan for a year. She was then transferred to the Hunan Province Women's Prison for three years, where she was brutally tortured.

The prison guards at Hunan Province Women's Prison handcuffed Ms. Lu for a long period of time after they saw her doing the Falun Gong exercises and reading Falun Gong-related materials. They would also beat her if they thought she was trying to recite the Fa. Ms. Lu was forced to stand facing the wall and deprived of sleep. Whenever she closed her eyes, they would spray mace or pepper spray at her eyes.

Ms. Lu was later sent to a brainwashing session in the prison where she was forced to watch videos that defamed Falun Gong. The guards also tried to force her to write a guarantee statement to give up practicing Falun Gong and curse the founder of the practice. When she refused to do so, she was handcuffed and forced to stand facing the wall continuously for a month. Afterwards, she was handcuffed with one hand behind her back and the other over her shoulder, for three times a day. The cuffs cut into her skin that it exposed the bone on her right wrist. Her left wrist was bruised. When she could no longer bear the pain, she agreed to be “transformed” against her will. By that time, her right wrist joint was dislocated.

When she was out of the brainwashing session, Ms. Lu regretted her action and made a declaration that her statement was void. The guards then ordered the criminal inmates to beat her and force her to sit in the water dungeon. During the cold winter, several inmates stripped off her clothes and pushed her head in and out of the water, over and over again. Afterwards, she was handcuffed and forced to stand for a long period of time without sleep. They sprayed her eyes with mace or pepper spray to keep her awake. The skin near the handcuff began to rot and she is still unable to lift her right hand.

Forced to Do Slave Labor

Ms. Lu was forced to do slave labor despite her condition. She had to crack open broad beans from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. the next day. She was often insulted and cursed at by the inmates because she couldn't lift anything. She couldn't go to sleep until she finished her quota, which was usually around 4 or 5 a.m. the next day.

Ms. Lu was later ordered to sew straw mats. Once, the inmates beat her because she recited the Fa while working. Another time, when she didn't finish her quota, several inmates lifted her up in the air and threw her to the ground, breaking her tailbone. Afterwards, if she made any noise because of the severe pain, she was beaten.

Ms. Lu's work quota was slightly reduced after a doctor at a hospital verified the injuries to her wrist and lower back. However, she still had difficulty sleeping at night because of the pain, so she recited the Fa. The inmates then beat her and forced her to take sleeping pills. She became drowsy during the day and wasn't able to work efficiently. As a result, this brought more torture.

Sent to Brainwashing Center after Release from Prison

Ms. Lu was released from prison on February 3, 2011. However, on the morning of September 27, 2011, more than a dozen police and the officials from the residential committee went to her home and took her away. They sent her to a brainwashing center in the Wujia Garden area of Xiangtan City, Hunan.
