(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Gao Mingxia was illegally arrested on July 11, 2010 and has been detained at the Qingdao 3rd Detention Center. Her trial took place at the Criminal Court of the detention center on May 9, 2011 at around 9 a.m. The Licang District Court began the trial without the presence of Ms. Gao's lawyers. The court personnel purposely blocked both of the lawyers from making a defense case for her by keeping them out of the courtroom.
Ms. Gao's family did not receive any notice of the court proceeding and only learned about it from the lawyers. When they arrived outside of the court, they were surprised that the personnel from several residence committees from Licang District were allowed to sit-in on the trial. Outside the detention center, around 200 police officers in uniform and plainclothes were stationed everywhere.
Ms. Gao's family protested the unfairness, so the authorities allowed only Ms. Gao's mother and daughter to go inside the courtroom. However, when the two lawyers arrived at the detention center, the court personnel told them Ms. Gao wasn't there yet so they had to wait outside. They also demanded the lawyers to provide a document issued from the local legal system to confirm their case. The lawyers questioned the legitimacy of their request and asked them to show a document where it states that regulation. The court personnel was unable to provide it, and continued to treat the lawyers in an unprofessional and extremely rude manner. Eventually, only one of the two lawyers was allowed to go inside the building. However, they still made it difficult for the lawyer by searching him and confiscating his watch and cell phone. To get inside the courtroom as soon as possible, the lawyer let them take the items even though he disagreed with them. The court personnel then demanded to also take away the lawyer's laptop computer. The lawyer had saved all the documents related to Ms. Gao's case in the computer and refused to let them take it away. He strongly protested their unreasonable order. With no other means to settle the dispute, the lawyer called for the police. However, the police refused to take any action. The lawyer was forced to leave the court in disappointment and protested the court personnel's hostile treatment.
Meanwhile, inside the courtroom, Judge Diao Zhengwen announced that the court proceedings HAD begun. Ms. Gao told him several times that she needed her lawyers present or she would refuse to answer any questions. Judge Diao replied that he only cared about starting the court proceedings and denied her request. Procurator Chen then started to present the so-called evidence against her—Ms. Gao visited her neighbors and told them about the persecution of Falun Gong.
Ms. Gao denied all the charges and asked that the judge summon the witnesses that the procurator mentioned. The judge didn't say anything or take any action. When the judge announced a recess, Ms. Gao turned around to look for her daughter in the room. She hasn't seen her daughter for more than a year. However, before she could do that, five to six police officers immediately grabbed her hands, feet and head, and dragged her out of the courtroom in front of everyone. Her daughter cried and angrily said to the police, “She is my mom and we haven't see each other for a year. Why can't we even look at each other! Are you human?”
