Wuhan City Judge Who Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners Dies Suddenly at Age 40

May 25, 2011 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent in Hubei Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Editors' Note: In both Western and Chinese culture, the principle of karmic retribution, that is, being held ultimately accountable for one's own actions, is widely accepted. The fundamental teaching of Falun Gong is the characteristic of the universe, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The universe will reward actions that are in harmony with this principle, while actions such as beating, torturing and murdering people will incur karmic retribution. Stated another way, good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet due retribution. Articles such as this one are meant as a compassionate reminder of this principle to those who would commit wrongdoing. While many of those who persecute Falun Gong are merely “following orders,” the universal law requires that they, too, be held responsible for their actions, and that only by reversing their course of wrongdoing may they escape retribution

In April 2009, Li Yaobing, a judge at the Wuhan City Hongshan Court Criminal Division in Hubei Province, was presiding over an illegal trial that had arisen from the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The case was later categorized as the “Hongshan Model” by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and promoted within Wuhan's court system. Two months later, Li fell to the ground, had a heart attack and died at the age of 40. Many people believe that the judge's untimely death was a form of karmic retribution that he brought to himself in persecuting Falun Gong.

The Hongshan Model Defined

On April 10, 2009, a hearing was set at the Hongshan District Court during which three practitioners, Ms. Hu Huifang, Ms. Chen Man, and Mr. Zhou Xiaojun were tried. During the trial, Ms. Chen Man's defense lawyer stated that the so-called evidence submitted by the Hongshan District Procuratorate was illegal, because two different prosecution documents were under the same batch number.

The reason for two different documents was because one was submitted into evidence by the Hongshan District Procuratorate and the other by the Wuhan City Police Department. The difference in content of these documents showed clearly that the "evidence" was fabricated.

Furthermore, the procedural due process was in violation of the Chinese Constitution and existing Chinese law. Therefore, the defense lawyer demanded that his clients be released unconditionally. However, the Hongshan District Court disregarded all objections and secretly sentenced Ms. Chen Man to a seven-year term, Ms. Hu Huifang to four years, and Mr. Zhou Xiaojun to a six-year term. Furthermore, the court delayed informing the families and attorney about the the court verdict, as the court was trying to forestall the accused from appealing.

Retribution for Persecuting Practitioners

Promotional materials distributed by the CCP claimed that Li Yaobing was a senior judge. However, nothing was said about the “Hongshan Model,” which was based on trumped up charges, concocted by Li Yaobing to persecute practitioners. We would like to point out that the judgment was signed by him personally.

On the afternoon of June 17, 2009, Li Yaobing fell to the ground and died of a heart attack outside his office.

We suggest that no one should circumvent basic moral standards. One shouldn't persecute practitioners, claiming it was a government directive. One especially shouldn't hope to gain recognition, be promoted, receive higher wages, or bonuses from the persecution of practitioners.

Heaven is watching people. Whether people persecute practitioners publicly or secretly, actively or passively, no one can escape ultimate justice. Life is precious.

As a judge, Li Yaobing was directly involved in persecuting Falun Gong and even falsified evidence to prosecute practitioners. He was given chances to repent, but kept on persecuting practitioners.

We hope that the people involved will remember what happened to their former colleague Li Yaobing, who persecuted practitioners. We hope that they make the right choice so that they will have good futures and not meet with karmic retribution.
