Part 6. Forced Abortions

It is a natural human instinct to protect and care for pregnant women. Caring for mothers is caring for life and future generations. In contrast to this universal value, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) disrespects life. Throughout the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong, the CCP has sanctioned the brutal torture of pregnant women. Some women have had to suffer forced abortions. Some babies were still alive after the procedure but were killed by doctors and/or policemen. From these cases we can see how the CCP uses its national apparatus as a tool for murdering and abusing women and children.

Baby Choked to Death

Guo Wenyan started practicing Falun Dafa in May 1999. Her former workplace was the electric equipment factory of the utility department of Yinchuan City in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

After the persecution began, Ms. Guo went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong on February 28, 2000. She was illegally arrested at a hotel in Beijing and was released after more than a month of interrogation and torture.

In 2003, Guo Wenyan was pregnant again. She and her husband went back to her hometown in Shaanxi Province and planned to keep the baby. One day, as they were talking along the street, Wan Jucai, an officer from the Tiedong Police Station, followed them. He found that Ms. Guo was pregnant, called a police car and took them to their home. Shortly afterwards, about 30 people from the police station and the community office came to the couple's home. These people immediately sent Ms. Guo to the Dongmen Family Planning Special Hospital, a hospital specialized in abortions for the one-child policy. They forcibly had Ms. Guo's baby aborted and forced family members to write acceptance signatures.

The baby was about seven months in term when the forced abortion took place. Ms. Guo's mother-in-law saw that the baby was still alive, and said, “Let's take the baby home.” Soon after, the doctor heard the baby's cry and choked the baby to death.

Guo Wenyan's husband used to be a policeman in the Patrol Office in Yinchuan City. After the persecution of Falun Gong began, his company pressured him to promise to stop practicing Falun Gong. He refused and lost his job. The psychological burden was so heavy that he was sick in his bed for half a year.

Brutal Beating at Four Months Pregnant

Luo Biqiong was 36 years old in 2004. She lived at 52 Liu'erqiao Street, Yingshan County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province.

On December 24, 2000 of the Chinese lunar calendar, Ms. Luo and her husband went to her mother-in-law's home for Chinese New Year. When she was sleeping at about 11:00 p.m., Li Wusheng, former chief of the Land Management Bureau in Lushui Township, Yingshan County, led more than 10 officers from the Lushui Police Station to her home and arrested her. Luo Biqiong was taken to a brainwashing session at the community office in Langchi Township.

At about 2:00 p.m. the next day, five people took Luo Biqiong to a small room and demanded that she stop practicing Falun Gong. She refused. These people then kicked her thighs, abdomen and back. They forced her to kneel down and showered her with slaps and punches to her face, hands, head and heels. Ms. Luo was in great pain. She was covered with bruises, her mouth was full of blisters, and her legs became purple. She also lost control of her bladder, and started bleeding. She wasn't allowed to change her pants. Ms. Luo was four months pregnant.

After she went home, several CCP agents learned that Ms. Luo continued to practice Falun Gong. They went to her home and forcibly took Ms. Luo away for a forced abortion. After the baby was killed, Ms. Luo was forced to flee her hometown.

Forced Abortion While Being Humiliated By Male Policemen

Geng Juying, 32, lived in Luozhuang Village, Chengbo Township, Mengzhou City in Hunan Province.

In December 1999, in order to tell the government that Falun Dafa is good, Ms. Geng went to Beijing to appeal, with her eight-month-old daughter. They were detained by the police in Beijing, and transferred to their hometown. The daughter was detained in the detention center in Mengzhou City. Ms. Geng didn't have enough food and couldn't produce enough milk for the baby. The baby cried often due to hunger. When the baby's pants got wet during snowy days, the police didn't allow the baby to get sunshine or change her pants. The baby suffered terribly, along with her mother.

On May 25, 2002, Geng Juying was arrested by police from the Public Security Bureau and the Mengzhou City 610 Office. The officers climbed over the fence to break into her home. In order to get a bonus, they forced Ms. Geng to get an abortion. When Geng was in a lot of pain on the bed, several male policemen looked at her and mocked her, “You are beautiful. We want to see you get an abortion.” Geng had to undergo the forced abortion while being humiliated by policemen. Afterwards, she was detained in the Shibalihe Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province.

Full-Term Baby Dismembered

Zhang Hanyun, 33, is from Hantai District, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province.

For years, Ms. Zhang wasn't able to have a baby. Within two weeks of practicing Falun Gong, she became pregnant. Her whole family was grateful to Falun Dafa.

By March 2001, the baby was at full-term. Ms. Zhang stayed at her relative's home to await the birth. However, the Hanzhong City 610 Office wanted to arrest her and take her to a brainwashing center. Ma Ping'an, political head of the Haitai District Police Station, took some people to arrest Zhang Hanyun. They couldn't locate her, so they suspended the construction site of Ms. Zhang's father and brother, in order to force the family to turn in Ms. Zhang. They also handcuffed Ms. Zhang's husband at the end of the bridge over the Jialing River in Lueyang County to publicly humiliate him. In the end, they got Ms. Zhang and took her to the brainwashing center.

When they found out that Ms. Zhang was going to give birth, they took her to a hospital 30 kilometers away for a forced abortion. The baby was too big to use normal abortion techniques, so they cut the baby apart and then took the pieces out from Ms. Zhang's body. The procedure was unspeakably brutal.

Forced Abortion for the Sake of Extending Prison Term

Liu Zhiping, 39, started practicing Falun Dafa in August 1997. She used to work at the Jiaotong Hotel of the Jiaotong Group in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province.

At the beginning of 2000, Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and was detained at the Yunnan Province Women's Forced Labor Camp. After being detained there for a while, Ms. Liu's elder sister was detained there too. By August 2000, Liu Zhiping was five months pregnant. When her sister heard that Ms. Liu was often beaten and had to do forced labor and run every night until dawn, she told the labor camp that Ms. Liu was pregnant. According to labor camp regulations, pregnant women are to return home. But the guards wanted to continue persecuting Ms. Liu, so several days later, they sent her to a hospital for a forced abortion. The guards yelled, “If you don't 'transform', you will have to stay!”

After two forced abortion attempts, the baby was finally killed.

Sent to a Labor Camp after Forced Abortion

Tang Jin'ai lived in Luogang Township, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province.

In December 2000, Tang Jin'ai went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was arrested and sent to the detention center in Zengcheng City. Ms. Tang was nauseated and threw up. After an ultrasound examination, the hospital found that Ms. Tang was already two months pregnant. The detention center released her.

However, when Tang Jin'ai was leaving the detention center, police officer Luo Weijun from the township police station and another plainclothes policeman followed her. The plainclothes policeman ordered Ms. Tang to get in a car, while Luo Weijun disappeared. Ms. Tang was driven to the family planning office.

The officers tried to force Tang Jin'ai to get an abortion. She refused to go into the operation room by holding onto the door frame. Six male officers then took her by force and held her down on the operating table. Ms. Tang said about the ordeal, “These bad people, they wouldn't even spare an unborn baby! They did it without my signature, or without notifying my family members, including my husband. They even told me, 'nobody will ever intervene.'”

On Chinese New Year's Eve of 2001, the police said that they were taking Tang Jin'ai to the hospital for a check-up, while in fact, she was sent to a drug rehab center for further persecution. Ms. Tang told the doctor that she often felt very tired and had pain in her lower back and was dizzy. However, the doctor didn't dare write down what she said because officer Liu Weijun had already ordered the doctor to write “everything is normal” on the diagnosis. Ms. Tang was then sent to the Glory Drug Rehab Center and spent the Chinese New Year there.

Tang Jin'ai refused to give up Falun Gong. After two months, she was sent to the Chatou Forced Labor Camp in Guangzhou City for a year and a half. In 2002, after Ms. Tang went home from the forced labor camp, her health had deteriorated significantly, and she had postpartum rheumatism. During windy days, her toes and whole body would swell, and her lower back became sore.

Husband and Unborn Baby Killed

Luo Fang, over 30 years old, is from Nongchang Village, Shawan District, Leshan City in Sichuan Province. Both Ms. Luo and her husband Shen Lizhi hold bachelor's degrees.

On February 1, 2002, when Luo Fang and her husband were waiting for the Number 75 bus in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, they were arrested by officers from the Yingmenkou Police Station. The police claimed that the couple were carrying Falun Gong materials, and sent them to the detention center in Chengdu City. A month later, Shen Lizhi was tortured to death on the afternoon of March 3, 2002 at the Qingyang District Hospital of Chengdu City. By that time, Mr. Shen had completed all the necessary paperwork to leave China.

When Ms. Luo was arrested, she was eight months pregnant. The 610 Office forced her to get an abortion. On May 28, 2002, Luo Fang was very weak and obtained a temporary release. On December 5, 2002, she was arrested again. She was tortured and sentenced to 12 years at the No. 3 Division, No. 12 Ward at Longquan Women's Prison in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province.

610 Office agent Tian Xinmin was not only directly responsible for Shen Lizhi's death, but was also the killer of Ms. Luo's baby. Luo Fang was a healthy young woman, but she was injected with unknown drugs and is now paralyzed. She can only curl her body and slowly drag her feet to move.

By November 2003, Ms. Luo could no longer stand on her own. She could only move by holding onto two small stools to drag herself. She was carried on a prisoner's back to the No. 12 Ward in Bingjiang Women's Prison for further abuse.

Two Miscarriages due to Severe Beatings

Liu Yunxiang is from Yangjiazhuang Village, Junfukou Township, Huaifang City, Shandong Province. She was 32 years old when she had her first miscarriage.

On January 21, 2000, Hua Guangyong, the former political and legal secretary of Junfukou Township, and several people under his command rounded up Falun Gong practitioners for persecution. It was freezing cold. The guards forced male practitioners to remove their shirts and female practitioners to strip to their underwear. The practitioners had to sweep the snow with their bare feet and then had to stand in the snow. They were severely beaten with leather belts. When a belt was broken, it was replaced by another.

Every day, Xia Bingtang, the legal chief, forced practitioners to run three times, for one hour each time. The practitioners were forced to slander Falun Gong while running. For those who refused to curse Falun Gong or who ran a little bit slower, the guards would beat them with sticks or leather belts. After running, practitioners were forced to drink alcohol and smoke [note: Falun Gong practitioners neither smoke nor drink alcohol]. Liu Yunxiang was 32 years old then and was pregnant. The beatings caused her to have a miscarriage. After a number of days, the practitioners were released after being extorted for large sums of money ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 yuan each.

At around midnight one summer night in 2001, Ms. Liu was arrested and beaten again. She miscarried for the second time as a result.

Forced Abortion by Eight Men

Wang Guijin is from Huazhuang Xingzheng Village, Lutai Township, Huaiyang County, Zhoukou City, Henan Province.

On May 1, 2004, Ms. Wang was arrested. Because she was pregnant, she was sent to the family planning bureau. No food was provided during her stay there.

On July 19, Wang Guijin was forcibly taken away from her mother's home. Her baby was full-term, and the due date was only 10 days away. She was sent to the family planning station for the one child policy, and was forced to get an abortion by eight men.

After the abortion, on July 20, Ms. Wang wasn't released, and her family wasn't notified of her situation. She was watched by the Lutai Township Police Station and the family planning office. She wasn't given enough food. Within half a month, Ms. Wang was sent to a detention center. An officer there saw that she wasn't feeling well and sent her for a check-up in the hospital. She was diagnosed with hepatitis B. However, she wasn't released, but was sentenced to a five-year prison term by the Huaiyang County Court. Ms. Wang's elderly father was sentenced to one year's imprisonment under the pretext of “obstruction of justice.” Also, a kindhearted neighbor who had once hosted Ms. Wang for a night was extorted for 2,000 yuan by the police. Ms. Wang's husband Song Zhenling was tortured so much that he became blind, paralyzed, and was on the verge of death in the Huaiyang County Detention Center. However, a CCP court sentenced him to ten years in prison. His three-year-old son was also taken away by the 610 Office of the Domestic Security Department.

******

Over the past 12 years, the number of cases of forced abortions and killing of babies of Falun Gong practitioners by the CCP is much more than the several cases listed here. The brutality may be beyond the imagination of a lot of readers. Those who participated in these atrocities have become a killing tool for the CCP.

How can the Chinese people tolerate such atrocities? How can they continue to allow the CCP to commit evil, hurt fellow Chinese, and destroy people's morality and conscience?
