(Clearwisdom.net) Back in 1996, Mr. Zhang Junan saw the book Zhuan Falun in a bookstore and soon began his cultivation practice. After the persecution began in July 1999, he refused to give up Falun Gong and was persecuted many times by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

In 1999, Li Jingbo, a police officer from Chengzhong Police Station, and his colleagues went to Mr. Zhang's home, and told him to give up his Dafa books and the clothing he wore to do the Falun Gong exercises.

In August 1999, Nie Yaoshan and Zhou Tao, members of the Politics and Law Section staff, along with Mr. Huang and other members of the Office of the Sanyanjing Residential Committee, accompanied Li Jingbo in an attempt to force Mr. Zhang to sign a guarantee statement, and then detained him for 15 days.

In September 1999, Zhou Tao and Yang Yingwei tried to force Mr. Zhang to give up his practice. When he refused, he was detained for another 15 days. In the meantime, Xu Guohua, chief of the Politics and Law Section, asked Zhang's family members for his Dafa books and 5,000 yuan. After Mr. Zhang returned home, he was required to sign statements at the police station every day. Whenever he refused, a police officer was sent to his home to get his signature.

On April 1, 2000, two police officers went to his home at night, waking him to sign a prepared document. He was not allowed to know the document's content until after he signed it. The document stated that he wouldn't appeal to higher authorities, practice Falun Gong, or hold gatherings.

On April 25, 2000, Zhang Junan went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Some people there asked him if he was a Dafa practitioner. When he refused to answer, they began to insult Falun Gong and Teacher Li Hongzhi. Mr. Zhang tried to stop them, but he was arrested. After he was deceived into writing down reasons for coming to Beijing, along with his name and address, he was turned over to the local authorities from his hometown. He was taken to a house and severely beaten by officers He Jianshe and Li Wenhe from the Chengzhong Police Station. Then, another police officer joined in to beat him. After being returned to his hometown, Mr. Zhang was detained at the Chenhe Police Station for 50 days. One of his relatives negotiated his release with Zhao Hongjie, deputy director of Chenhe Police Station, who required a 5,000 yuan bribe.

On March 22, 2002, police officer Li Jingbo and his colleagues called Mr. Zhang and accused him of failing to stop at a red light. The officers ordered him to come to the police station to explain what happened. When Mr. Zhang arrived, over ten 610 Office staff members were waiting for him. For three days, they took turns interrogating him, trying to force him to provide information about other practitioners. Zhou Shangzhi, director of the Chenhe Police Station, told Mr. Zhang that he could go home after they verified his statement. Deprived of sleep for three days, Mr. Zhang was exhausted and told Zhou what he knew. However, officer Zhou Tao arranged to put Mr. Zhang in a forced labor camp for about one year. Mr. Zhang was released around the end of February 2003.

In 2006, Nie Yaoshan became the commander of the Domestic Security Division. He and some of his staff went to the car rental company where Mr. Zhang worked and claimed that someone had filed a suit against the company. When Mr. Zhang told everyone present how Nie and other officers had deceived him on many occasions, Nie and his group left.

On December 26, 2006, practitioner Rao Xuming, a friend of Mr. Zhang, had already been persecuted for three years, so his mother went to the Domestic Security Division to argue for his release. While talking to officials, an officer pushed her violently to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness. When Mr. Zhang and another family member of Mr. Rao went to the Chengzhong Police Station to help, both were detained and persecuted for ten days before they were finally released.

In July 2008, Nie Yaoshan and his staff returned to the car rental company, but were unable to locate Mr. Zhang. On July 18, 2008, 610 Office officials directed Nie and other officers from the Chengzhong Police Station to ransack the homes of three practitioners, Chen Desheng, Zhang Junan, and Tian Donglin. The officials confiscated Dafa books along with other personal belongings.
