(Clearwisdom.net) On the morning of September 28, 2009, officers in Yushu City, Jilin Province forced their way into practitioner Ms. Chai Xiuzhi's home, ransacked it, and arrested Ms. Chai. Her husband, Mr. Peng Tie, attempted to stop them and was beaten. A month later, he died.
The day of the incident, Mr. Peng wrote a note describing it:
"Two officers from the Changchun City Domestic Security Bureau, and four officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Yushu City Police Department, ransacked my home from 10:50 a.m. to noon on September 28, 2009. The chief of the Domestic Security Division was among them, and there were six officers in total. We did not open the door for them. They forced their way into my home through a window, and searched for more than a hour. They ransacked our closet, nightstands, and every room, and seized our bank certificates, computer, printer, DVD player, music system, video recorder, cell phone, as well as Falun Dafa books and pamphlets (the bank certificates and video recorder were recovered).
"When they were forcing their way through the window, I tried to stop them. A young officer threw me to the ground, and punched or kicked (I don't remember which) my abdomen. I had extreme pain in my ribs, but I did not fight back. I am almost 60 and weak, and have no strength. If I were strong, I would have kept them out, and fought them. We did not break any law, and there is no excuse for breaking into a private residence."
After the incident, Ms. Chai was arrested and Mr. Peng lived alone. His health deteriorated rapidly, and two weeks later his doctor issued a notice of critical illness. Upon his family's urgent request, police released Ms. Chai after she had been detained and on hunger strike for eighteen days, and the family paid 10,000 yuan in bail money. Mr. Peng died a month after the police ransacked his home.
