(Clearwisdom.net) Today's News from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 23 cities or counties in 9 provinces. In this report, 8 practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention and at least 27 practitioners were illegally arrested.
1. [Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province] Mr. Yang Bin and Mr. Zhao Huirui Arrested
On August 30, 2009, Mr. Yang Bin and Mr. Zhao Huirui were arrested while they were trying to hang banners outside the Taiyuan City government building. Officers from the Xinghualing Branch of the Taiyuan Public Security Department and the 610 Office went to search the home of Mr. Zhao's mother, Ms. Hao Runlian, and confiscated one computer, two printers, one sewing machine, and other personal items. Ms. Hao and Mr. Zhao are held at the Taiyuan City Detention Center. Officers also took away the cell phone of Mr. Yang, whose whereabouts are unknown.
2. [Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Yang Shuping Vomited Blood in Prison
Ms. Yang Shuping from Wei County, Zhangjiakou City, was taken to the Zhangjiakou Detention Center between late June and early July 2008. She was later secretly sentenced to a three-year term and sent to the Shijiazhuang Women's Prison in Hebei Province on October 16, 2008.
During her imprisonment, Ms. Yang often vomited blood and has had severe symptoms of tuberculosis. She has been put in quarantine.

3. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Lirong Arrested
On the afternoon of July 13, 2009, Ms. Zhang Lirong was arrested on a charge of "spreading propaganda about Falun Gong" by officers from the Tiexi Police Department's Gongren Village Police Station in Shenyang City. Her family has recently hired legal counsel to defend her.
4. [Shanghai] Mr. Cheng Bo Arrested
Mr. Cheng Bo, an employee of Moody (Shanghai) Consulting Ltd. in the Zhangjiang High-Tech Area, Shanghai, was recently arrested. His whereabouts are unknown.
5. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zou Lisha and Ms. Qu Xiuli Arrested
In the evening of August 31, 2009, Ms. Zou Lisha and Ms. Qu Xiuli, both residents of the Muping District in Yantai City, were reported and arrested while they were distributing materials about Falun Gong. At approximately 11:00 p.m. that evening, officers from the Domestic Security Division of the Muping District Public Security Department and the Xishan Police Station went to search both Ms. Zou and Ms. Qu's homes. They are held at the Muping District Detention Center.

6. [Guangping County, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhang Xiru Arrested
On August 30, 2009, Ms. Zhang Xiru from Youfang Village, Guangping County, was arrested at home. She is held at the Guangping County Detention Center.
7. [Gaomi City, Shandong Province] Mr. Wang Dejun and Ms. Wang Xianglan Arrested
On August 31, 2009, Mr. Wang Dejun and his wife, Ms. Wang Xianglan, both residents of Gaomi City who were forced to leave home due to the persecution of Falun Gong, were arrested in their rental home by officers from the Nanguan Police Station. They were first taken to the Nanguan Police Station and later transferred to the Gaomi City Domestic Security Division. On September 1, 2009, they were taken to the Gaomi City Detention Center.

8. [Beijing] Several Practitioners from Fengtai District Arrested and Homes Searched
Mr. Wang Kui, in his 40s, lives at 301 Gate 6, Building 3, Hengfuzhong Street, Beijing. On the morning of August 20, 2009, officer Zhang Zhongguo and two other officers from the Ke'er Police Station in the Fengtai District and two individuals, Ma and Lu, from the Ke'er Residential Committee broke into Mr. Wang's home and arrested him. The officers ransacked the home and confiscated all the Falun Gong books and DVDs, a computer, a printer, and other personal items. Two officers from the Domestic Security Division came later and put the confiscated items back into Mr. Wang's home so they could videotape the site. Afterward they took away everything. Several other practitioners in the Fufengyuan and Hanzhuangzi areas in the Fengtai District were also arrested on the same day. Mr. Wang's whereabouts remain unknown.

9. [Xinyang City, Henan Province] Ms. Huang Xiaobo Arrested
On the morning of August 26, 2009, Ms. Huang Xiaobo from the Shihe District in Xinyang City was arrested by Wu Bo, chief of the Shihe District Domestic Security Division, and a dozen of other officers while she was at work. She is held at the Xinyang City No. 1 Detention Center.
10. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. He Xiuli Arrested
Ms. He Xiuli, in her 50s, lives in the No. 6 Dormitory of the North China Pharmaceutical Group Corporation. On the afternoon of September 1, 2009, she was reported while she was telling people the truth about Falun Gong. She was arrested by the Yuhua Road Police Station.
11. [Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province] Additional Information on Ms. Qin Guohua's Arrest
Ms. Qin Guohua, in her late 40s, is an employee of the Wholesale Fireworks Department in the Gongqing Development Zone Supply and Marketing Cooperative in Jiujiang City. Around August 25, 2009, she was reported while she was distributing informational materials to her coworkers. On August 31, 2009, Lin Jiajun and three other officers from the Gongqing Domestic Security Division arrested her while she was at work and searched her home afterward. Ms. Qin is held at the Gongqing Detention Center. Her husband, Mr. Xing Hui, had already been forced to leave home. Mr. Xing had been arrested and sent to forced labor camps several times. Mr. Xing's mother, who is 86, and their 22-year-old daughter are now one their own.

12. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Dawei Arrested at Home (Correction)
At approximately 5 p.m. on August 26, 2009, Mr. Li Dawei, 28 years old, from the Jinzhou District in Dalian City was reported and then arrested at home by officers from the Guangming Police Station in Jinzhou District. He is now in the Beishanli Detention Center in the Jinzhou District.

13. [Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wang Shumin and Ms. Wang Huilan Arrested
At around 3 p.m. on August 31, 2009, Ms. Wang Shumin from Zhuozhou City was arrested by officers from the Zhuozhou Domestic Security Division. Around 3 p.m. on September 1, 2009, Ms. Wang Huilan was arrested at home by officers from the Zhuozhou Domestic Security Division. Their whereabouts are unknown.
14. [Beijing] Mr. Pang You's Wife Arrested
Mr. Pang You from the Chaoyang District in Beijing was sentenced to eight years in prison on September 27, 2000. He was released on September 27, 2008. On August 3, 2009, ten months after his return, he was once again arrested. Police from the Laiguangying Police Station in the Chaoyang District took him to the Chaoyang District Detention Center.
At around 6 p.m. on August 27, 2009, Mr. Pang's wife, Ms. Guo Shujing, was arrested at home. Officers ransacked the home and confiscated a computer and other personal items. They ransacked the neighbor's home as well. Ms. Guo was take away at approximately 9:30 p.m. that night. She is being held at the Chaoyang District Detention Center. The couple's elementary school-aged child is at home alone.
15. [Chongqing City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Xu Jingling Arrested
Ms. Xu Jingling, an employee of the Dajiang Factory in the Banan District of Chongqing City, was recently arrested by the Banan District Public Security Department after she came back from Chengdu City in August 2009. She is in the Banan District Detention Center.
16. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Li Xiumin's Detention at Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp Extended
Ms. Li Xiumin from Pengjiaweizi Village, Gengxin Township, Songyuan City, was arrested by the Gengxin Township Police Station in June 2008. She was later sentenced to one year of forced labor and held at the First Division of the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp.
In July 2009, Ms. Li's family called the forced labor camp and asked why she had not been released at the end of her term. They were told that her term had been extended because she refused to cooperate with the forced labor camp.
17. [Xinxiang City, Henan Province] Ms. Zhang Guizhen Taken to Xinxiang City Women's Prison
On February 14, 2009, Zhu Yanqun, Sang Hu, and several others from the Zhongyuan Oil Field 610 Office broke into Ms. Zhang Guizhen's home and arrested her. 70-year-old Ms. Zhang was taken to the Puyang City Detention Center, where she refused to give up her belief or to cooperate with the authorities. Sha Qijun, the CCP secretary of the Zhongyuan Oil Field, threatened to send her to prison regardless of her age. In early June 2009, Ms. Zhang was sentenced to a three-year term by the Longhua District Court in Puyang City. He Fengying was the presiding judge, and Wu Qiaoli was the prosecutor from the district procuratorate. Ms. Zhang appealed to the Puyang City Intermediate Court and was harassed by Han Qing and several others from the 610 Office. On August 17, 2009, the Intermediate Court rejected her appeal and upheld the lower court ruling. On August 21, 2009, she was taken to the Xinxiang City Women's Prison.

18. [Kunming City, Yunnan Province] Additional Information on the Persecution of Mr. Qiang Hui
Mr. Qiang Hui, born in 1975, is a resident of Jingdong County, Simao City, Yunnan Province. In late 2001, he was arrested for distributing Falun Gong fliers by officers from the Jingdong County Police Department. He was sentenced to one and half years of forced labor and taken to Dapingba Second Forced Labor in Lufeng County. He was fired by his employer.
In May and June 2005, Jingdong County police officers arrested more than ten local practitioners, including Mr. Qiang Hui, Ms. Wu Mingcai, Ms. Yang Pizhi, and Mr. He Jingchun.
Ms. Wu, Ms Yang, and Mr. He were sentenced to imprisonment. Ms. Wu and Ms. Yang were each sentenced to three years and detained in the Yunan Province Second Prison. Mr. Qiang made his escape and was forced to become homeless to avoid arrest.
On April 24, 2009, Mr. Qiang was arrested again in Kunming City by the Guandu Domestic Security Division and the Guandu District Public Security Department and taken to the Guandu District Detention Center in Kunming City. He is being held at the Guandu District Detention Center.

19. [Chicheng County, Hebei Province] Ms. Ji Shujun and Ms. Wang Sulan Arrested
On the morning of September 1, 2009, Ms. Wang Sulan from Longmengsuo Town and Ms. Ji Sujun from out of town were reported while they were distributing information about Falun Gong. They were arrested by officers from the town police station and the town government officials. Ms. Ji was brutally beaten for refusing to get in the police car. She was held at the police station and placed on a "tiger bench." Ms. Wang was released the next day after the town government and the county public security department extorted 10,000 yuan from her.
20. [Datong City, Shanxi Province] Ms. Li Shuping Arrested
In the afternoon of August 20, 2009, Ms. Li Shuping, an employee of Datong Coal Mining Administration, was arrested by plainclothes officers from the Xiaojinyu Police Station in Taiyuan City. She is held in the Taiyuan City Detention Center where she has gone on a hunger strike for ten days and is on the verge of death.
21. [Guan County, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhang Hongmei Arrested
On August 31, 2009, Ms. Zhang Hongmei from Yanzhuang Township, Guan County, was arrested by plainclothes officers when she was distributing informational materials on the Zhendong Beltway. The officers then went to her house and confiscated all the Falun Gong-related materials. Ms. Zhang's whereabouts are unknown.
22. [Sichuan Province] Ms. Liao Wenjun Sent to Brainwashing Center
Ms. Liao Wenjun, an employee of the Changhu Irrigation Administration Bureau, was recently sent to the Neijiang Brainwashing Center by five to six officers from the Weiyuan 610 Office; Yin Guangcheng, the business manager of her workplace; and Li Guangqun, the assistant business manager.
23. [Chongqing City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yu Hong Persecuted in Prison
Ms. Yu Hong, 54 years old, from Chongqing City was sentenced to a five-year term and is in the Second Division of the Yongchuan Women's Prison in Chongqing City. She refused to cooperate with the police for brainwashing and "transformation" and has endured persecution for quite some time. Every day she had to complete as much heavy labor as the other much younger inmates for as long as it took. After she went back to her cell, she was ordered to stand as a form of torture for several hours, sometimes even until midnight. She was not allowed to have more than 50 yuan per month on her personal account.
For quite some time Ms. Yu was ordered to stand on a daily basis. After several months her feet were so swollen that she could not wear any shoes. Once warden Li Xiaojuan drew a small circle on the ground and ordered Ms. Yu to stand inside the circle. Two drug-addicted criminal inmates were ordered to watch her 24 hours. When she could no longer stand and sat down on the ground, the two inmates used a cigarette butt to burn her feet and trampled her legs.
After more than one year of torture, Ms. Yu has become extremely thin and weak. Since she cannot stand anymore, the prison guard have ordered her to sit on a small bench by the prison office door every day after she finishes her hard labor, until all the lights in the division go out and everyone else is asleep. The two drug-addicted inmates' sentences were reduced, and they were released early for their involvement in the persecution of Ms. Yu.
24. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Meng Xianglin and Mr. Zhai Jichun Persecuted
Mr. Meng Xianglin was arrested by the Fengguang Police Station in October 2000. He was held in the Nanshan Detention Center in Shulan City for 15 days and fined 5,000 yuan. In April 2004, he was held in the Nanshan Detention Center for one month and eight days and fined 5,000 yuan. His home was searched several times. Zhang Zhongyan, Sun Jiku, Li Haisheng, Lin Shanying, and Li Shufang from the Fengguang Police Station were directly involved in Mr. Meng's persecution.
In June 2000, Mr. Zhai Jichun's home was searched, and the police confiscated his radio. He was arrested and sent to the Nanshan Detention Center, where he was held for about three months. After having 2,000 yuan extorted from him, Mr. Zhai was sent to Changchun City for forced labor. Yin Jifang, Sun Jiku, Li Haisheng, and Liu Qingguo from the Fengguang Police Station were directly involved in Mr. Zhai's persecution.
25. [Shouguang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Ma Shoulan Arrested
On the afternoon of August 31, 2009, Ms. Ma Shoulan from Shouguang City was arrested. Her whereabouts are unknown.
26. [Yongqing County, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhang Yushan Arrested
Recently, Mr. Zhang Yushan from Siying Village, Yangmazhuang Township, Yongqing County, was reported when he was informing people about the persecution. He was arrested and taken to the county detention center.
