(Clearwisdom.net) In July 2009, Ms. Zhang Xinyi, 55, a school teacher in Changsha City, was arrested and detained for twelve days. During that time, she was held in various places including Zhuzhou State Security Office, the Public Security Bureau, detention center, a forced labor camp, and a brainwashing center. She was transferred in and out those places eight times. She is finally back home in Changsha City with her wrists scarred and numb from the handcuffs used during her persecution.

Ms. Zhang Xinyi was a math teacher at the elementary school for the children of Changsha City Aluminum Factory Employees (currently Xintian Elementary school). In Summer 1998, Ms. Zhang and her husband were sent to teach at Phnom Penh Chinese school in Cambodia. While they were there, they obtained United Nations refugee status. In 2002, the Cambodian government forcibly repatriated Ms. Zhang to China under pressure from China's ambassador in Cambodia. In April 2005, she was arrested and illegally sentenced. She was finally released three years later.

Arrested in Zhuzhou City, Ms. Zhang was Extorted for a Confession

Ms. Zhang went to visit a friend in Zhuzhou City on the morning of July 11, 2009. Shortly after she arrived in Zhuzhou, a few self-proclaimed State Security personnel forced her into a small car. They confiscated her handbag and demanded that she tell them where she got the Falun Gong materials she had with her. Ms. Zhang insisted that she had the right to practice Falun Gong and that distributing Falun Gong materials is not against the law. She protested that what they were doing was illegal and violated her human rights.

A few hours later, the State Security personnel handed her over to the Shifeng District Public Security Sub-bureau in Zhuzou City. Ms. Zhang spent a suffering and sleepless night there in the office of the State Security Brigade.

Ms. Zhang resisted all their efforts to make her disclose the source of the Dafa materials, so the State Security Police began torturing her by hitting her head with water bottles, pulling her hair, and slapping her face. They also hung her up by her handcuffs. It hurt so much that Ms. Zhang howled in pain. The State Security Police left her hanging by the handcuffs all night, causing her hands to become numb and her wrists to be seriously injured.

The next day, Ms. Zhang was transferred to the Zhuzhou City Second Detention Center. A few days later she learned that the Shifeng District Public Security Sub-bureau was preparing to have her sentenced to a forced labor camp, so she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

State Security Brigade Captain's Denial

Ms. Zhang's family and some of her students went to the State Security office to get information about her location and condition, but when they arrived the door was tightly closed. They then went to the local Public Security Bureau Office of Complaint. Officers there said that they had no authority to interfere with the matter. Finally, through a connection with the secretary of the Disciplinary Committee, they had a chance to see State Security Brigade Captain Gao Ganrong. Gao denied the use of physical punishment. But when Ms. Zhang's student earnestly questioned him about having extorted a confession from Ms. Zhang, Gao became furious. He picked up the female student and threw her out the door, and would not allow her to come back into his office.

In addition to denying that he extorted the confession, Gao Ganrong also denied that he was even part of the State Security police, saying that he was only doing liaison work between departments. But later, through talking with others and on the public security bureau's billboard, Gao Ganrong was verified as the State Security Brigade captain of the past ten years.

A few hours after Ms. Zhang's family left, the police tried two times to have her transferred to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, but the camp refused to admit her due to her physical condition.

Family Members Called Police a Second Time

The Zhuzhou authorities contacted Zhang's family and ordered them to take Ms. Zhang home. At the same time, they told the Street and the Community Office where the family lived and that they should bring Ms. Zhang home so that her family wouldn't have to make a special trip.

Ms. Zhang was picked up by personnel from the Street and Community Office, but instead of taking her home, they took her to the Changsha City Brainwashing Center, also known as the "Hunan Legal System Training Base." Ms. Zhang demanded to be taken home, but the personnel there said, "You have no rights whatsoever. You're just a piece of meat on the chopping board." They pressured Ms. Zhang to give up her faith in Dafa, so she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

After spending two nights at the so-called Legal System Training Base, she was finally released on July 23. There was no explanation from the Street Office about why Ms. Zhang was taken to the brainwashing center.
