Kindhearted Physician Tortured with Drugs at Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City

July 21, 2009 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Wu Xin, a college student from Shandong Province, was repeatedly deprived of her right to visit her imprisoned mother at the Dashan Detention Center in Qingdao City. Only recently was she granted permission to meet with her. When she first saw her mother, she could hardly believe her eyes, "Is this old, haggard, and skinny lady my once-beautiful mother whom I've longed to see?!"

Ms. Wu Xiuxin, a physician, was illegally arrested because she practiced Falun Gong. After a short while at the detention center, she was reduced to skin and bones, and it was hard to recognize her. This was due in part to the guards injecting her with and force-feeding her toxic drugs. Often times the drugs were mixed directly into the practitioner's food. In addition, she was regularly tortured both physically and mentally.

During the ten years of the Chinese Communist Party's brutal persecution of Falun Gong, drug-related torture has been widely employed by prison guards to extract confessions and force practitioners to write a so-called "guarantee statement." These dangerous drugs have the effect of over-stimulating a person's central nervous system and other vital systems in the body. They can also cause the victim to experience extreme pain, spasms, convulsions, vomiting, dizziness, swelling, general weakness, mental confusion, memory loss, and other symptoms. This form of torture has resulted in many practitioners becoming physically disabled and mentally traumatized. Many practitioners have even died from the drugs.

Arrested by Police Officers

Ms. Wu was a physician at the Department of Gastroscopy in the Laixi City People's Hospital in Shandong Province. One evening, a week before the 2008 Olympics, a group of policemen led by Li Weikui, deputy chief of the Political and the Judiciary Department in the Laixi City Police Department, suddenly stormed into Ms. Wu's home and ransacked it. They took many of her personal belongings away with them, and forcibly arrested Ms. Wu. They later took her to the Laixi City Police Department.

A few days after Ms. Wu's arrest, she was brutally tortured and began to experience the symptoms of heart disease, with her blood pressure climbing to 160 mmHg. The officers took her to the Dashan Detention Center but the guards rejected her due to her poor health. Several officers from the Laixi City Police Department finally bribed the guards into accepting her. The officers dragged Ms. Wu from the front gate of the center all the way inside.

Torture

Ms. Wu has been practicing medicine for almost thirty years now. She is both respected and trusted by her patients because of her excellent skills and noble personality. Although she is over fifty years old, the guards still put 20-pound shackles on her. This not only humiliated her, but also made it very difficult for her to move around, causing her to suffer both physically and mentally. Not long afterward, she was unable to walk on her own and needed assistance whenever she needed to use the restroom.

Drug Abuse

The guards secretly mixed dangerous drugs into Ms. Wu's food, causing her to vomit and become very sick. They then forced Ms. Wu to take some "medicine" to treat her "disease." In order to avoid being drugged, Ms. Wu only ate a few bites of pickles each day, causing her to become very emaciated.

Fabricated Evidence

After being detained for almost six months, Ms. Wu's case was brought before the Laixi City Procurator and court. The court decided to throw out her case due to insufficient evidence and ordered the police to release her. Under the influence of the Laixi City 610 Office, Shen Tao, an officer from the Laixi City Police Department, resubmitted false evidence to the court and as a result, Ms. Wu was sentenced to three years in prison.

No Way to Appeal

Ms. Wu's daughter tried to help her by hiring an attorney, but because of an unspoken rule that says, "Chinese attorneys are not allowed to defend Falun Gong practitioners," Ms. Wu was unable to find an attorney who would take the case. She sadly exclaimed, "No one is willing to help my mother!" She now spends many sleepless nights worrying about her mother's safety.
