(Clearwisdom.net) At the sold out performance on this final night of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour in London, the enthusiastic West End audience gave the performers a long, standing ovation as they took their bows to the third curtain call, with call backs for more!
Company Director: "I Just Liked Being in That World"
This was Mr. and Mrs. Gee's first time seeing DPA, and they were glad to share their experience after the show. "I do like the show. I think it's very nice, very nice indeed," said Mrs. Gee.
Mr. and Mrs. Gee
Mrs. Gee is a non-executive director of a retail company. She has traveled extensively, including to China. Although she's long been fascinated with Chinese culture, she immediately said she'd never seen anything like DPA. "I think they've done a good thing here. I think it's very nice. A nice way of explaining the culture of China through dance."
She elaborated on her initial impressions of the show, saying, "And it's the sort of feel you get from people sometimes--very gentle, everything is very relaxed. Charming! I think is the word is 'charming.'"
Mrs. Gee noted the "beautiful costumes" and the "strong dancing" seen in performances like the Tibetan dance. She commended the orchestra. "The orchestra's very good, very visual," she added.
Managing Director: "It's Good to Have This Message"
"The dances were impressive, and also the cultural experience overall," commented Mr. Machado, managing director of a London-based company. "It was a very good orchestra. The singers as well! Even as an opera fan, I was surprised by the quality of these performances!"
Mr. and Mrs. Machado and their friend, Mr. Cohen, a London-based lawyer
"It's good to have this message," he said, in reference to the performance entitled, "Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution," a dance that depicts the persecution of those who practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline banned in China. "If you don't discuss certain issues, you don´t get anywhere."
Accompanying Mr. and Mrs. Machado at the New London Theatre was Mr. Cohen, a lawyer. "What I liked was the color and the movement," he said.
"The women are very elegant and the men very brave. But this is the way of the East, isn't it?" Mr. Cohen added.
DPA Brings China's History to Life
Mr. Davis, a communications M\manager for a global computer company, has been learning to speak Chinese. He said he was advised by his language teacher to see the DPA show, a dialogue of China's ancient traditions.
Mr. Davis was stunned by the wide-ranging repertoire of the show, "I didn't know what to expect before the show. So it was very interesting, a selection of dances I didn't know well."
He added, "I learned something from this show. Because I´m learning Chinese, I started learning about their folk traditions and the ancient Chinese legends. But when you see [it on] stage before you, it brings things to life!"
In a Word, "Brilliant!"
Among the appreciative audience was Dr. Zena Miscony, owner of a real estate company that specializes in commercial investments. She also works with an overseas government on health-care. "It's brilliant, beautiful, very artistic, very creative, fantastic costumes, and beautiful choreography.
"I think it's the combination of everything, and the music. And the opera singers! The two opera singers, the gentleman and the lady, were both also excellent."
Dr. Miscony also had high praise for the DPA orchestra, saying, "Fantastic orchestra. The music is very good, beautifully written, beautifully delivered."
This was the second time that Dr. Miscony has seen a DPA show, each time also bringing her parents, and she said she would make sure that they all return again next year.
"It's a Pleasure!"
Mr. Taylor, who works for a bank in London, said at intermission, "It's very good, very good. I think just the overall color and the dancing; the backdrops help it come alive. And the costumes are marvelous. It's wonderful; really, really nice; a pleasure!"
Mr. Taylor appreciated seeing China's long history presented through DPA's performances. "I think I understand a bit about Chinese culture. This is a way of bringing it more to life."
