(Clearwisdom.net) Overcome By Emotion

"It was very visual and very beautiful. It was very moving!" exclaimed Ms. Djubek, a writer for Ohio Magazine, after she watched Divine Performing Arts (DPA) performance in Columbus, Ohio on March 9, 2009. "There were times throughout the performance that I was overcome with emotion, and I felt that a lot of people were being overcome by emotion from what was presented to them during the performance."

When asked about her favorite program, Ms. Djubek said, "I liked the 'Flowing Sleeves' performance the best. I also enjoyed the music and the erhu, it was one of my favorite performances as well."

Ms. Djubek felt that it was important for traditions not to get lost along the way, and that it was good that the DPA show was bringing this to the public. "I thought this was a great way to Chinese culture, and I felt it really showed people a glimpse into the background of that culture. I felt there were a lot of things that I had never experienced before, but that I was able to, with this performance. I can feel a spiritual message in the show, and I hope that if Divine Performing Arts comes back I can see it again."

Appreciation of Spirituality and History

Ms. Brown, who works in finance, and Ms. Norbell, a medical student, were among the many enthusiastic theater goers who saw the DPA show for the first time. At Intermission Ms. Brown eagerly shared her impressions, "I think its been wonderful! And I am really excited to see the second act. I thought the fan dance was fabulous--I was really shocked when they opened up the fans and it formed a flower."

Ms. Norbell agreed, "It's very colorful and energetic. It's exciting. I like the cultural timeline incorporated in it. I think the drums, both scenes where they showed the drums, those were both very energetic."

Both ladies expressed amazement as they described the 3-D digital backdrops. Ms. Brown said, "I liked how the backdrop was incorporated along with the dance. The first time somebody popped out of the floor, I was shocked. And the second time, when people jumped out--it was still surprising."

Ms. Norbell added, "There were a lot of visual surprises and I think the one principal dancer that dances in character - just really draws me into everything! He was the monk and he pops out in all of the dances. He's just really innovative and funny and energetic--you're drawn to him whenever he is on the stage."

Ms. Brown elaborated, "It's hard to find traditional dance anywhere. Its difficult to find true cultural dance that takes you through a timeline, and it's really nice to see from start to the present, how dance develops and how the artists actually take the ancient techniques and bring them to a modern audience."

She added, "It makes me want to learn more, [about spirituality] it really does. I have always been interested in it. My friend here has always been interested in it, so I thought it was a great opportunity to come learn more, and I'm really glad that there are teaching elements in this show. It makes me kind of want to research more."

Ms. Norbell agreed, "Reincarnation, values, and if you do good, you will receive good, so throughout there are family values and also the spiritual component of it."
