(Clearwisdom.net) "I visited China in 2000. To my surprise, I witnessed how policemen beat up women and elderly Falun Gong practitioners on Tiananmen Square. I was shocked by what I saw," said Dr. Huang Zuwei.

Dr. Huang Zuwei

Dr. Huang is a scientist and senior engineer at NASA in Maryland. He told this reporter that he had no idea what Falun Gong was before he visited China. He might have heard about the persecution, but what he saw on Tiananmen Square was unforgettable. "It was the first time I saw Falun Gong. My father and I were on a tour in China. I saw many people meditating on Tiananmen Square, and many others watched them. We got close to see what was happening. We ended up seeing policemen beating and kicking those meditating, who didn't fight back. The policemen ruthlessly beat them with batons. Even women and children were beaten badly."

Policemen seize Falun Gong practitioners who peacefully appeal for Falun Gong on Tiananmen Square.

"I was very surprised. How could it be? I took out my camcorder to record it. A policemen immediately came up to me and tried to pull me into a police car. While I was resisting, my father asked me to give him my videotape. The policemen completely ripped the tape out.

"The tape had all my video recording of that trip. We had visited several cities including Xi'an before we went to Beijing. The tape was completely destroyed. I was angry and wanted to leave. My father said that, since we were there, we should at least take a look. So we went to the Tiananmen Gate Tower."

Unfortunately, Dr. Huang saw more unpleasantness at the tower. Policemen guarded the gate and questioned every tourist. Some tourists were searched. The police told foreign tourists to form one line and domestic tourists another. When it was close to his turn to be examined, he saw the police ask two middle-aged women in the next line if they practiced Falun Gong. They answered they were there to visit. However, the policemen said, "You two look like Falun Gong" and took them away.

"I was greatly disturbed by the two incidents I saw within an hour." Dr. Huang recalled. "I was shocked. I used to think China's economy was developing well. I couldn't believe the police would beat up unarmed civilians in broad daylight. They were the elderly and women. How could that be?"

Puzzled and angered, Dr. Huang returned to the US and told his friends what he saw on Tiananmen Square. A friend of his happens to practice Falun Gong. Dr. Huang began to learn more about Falun Gong. After reading the book Zhuan Falun his friend loaned him, Huang said, "The book is wonderful!"

More than six thousand Falun Gong practitioners in south Taiwan form the book Zhuan Falun on the morning of May 9, 2009.

Dr. Huang said he used think supernormal phenomena were unbelievable. However, he felt enlightened after reading Zhuan Falun because the book explained many things science couldn't explain. "I think what is written in the book is very justifiable and scientific."

Practitioners do the exercise in a group in front of Capitol Hill

"This is how I started to cultivate in Falun Gong." Huang said. When he saw those simple and honest people being beaten by the police on Tiananmen Square, he felt very upset. "After I started practicing Falun Gong, I realized how great it is and how the CCP has slandered and persecuted Falun Gong. It has even deceived people all around the world. I think it is very serious."

Dr. Huang calls for end to the persecution and condemns the CCP's crime of harvesting organs from living practitioners.

"I feel I have a compelling obligation to step out and tell everyone: Falun Gong is great! It is beneficial and does no harm. Unfortunately, the CCP brutally persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. I think anyone who thinks Falun Gong is great would do that." Dr. Huang often participates in activities exposing the persecution. On July 20 of every year, the day the persecution was launched in 1999, he joins other practitioners from all over the world on Capitol Hill to call for an end to the persecution.
