Los Angeles, California: Divine Performing Arts Completes Successful Eight-Show Run (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) The Divine Performing Arts International Company put on eight shows at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Los Angeles for six days in a row, to an audience of more than 16,000 people. The final matinée held on the afternoon of January 4, 2009 ended amid enthusiastic applause. Among the audience were well-known artists, local politicians and people in the commercial and business sectors. They were amazed by the show.

Artists laud the DPA show as being world class

Chinese-American violinist Mr. Wei praised the show as "being of a world-class standard," "very successful and professional." He said, "(The music) is very professional, and of a high caliber in terms of composition, performance, scenes and scale."

Mr. Wei commended the show from a cultural angle, saying that it is a blessing to be able to see a comprehensive performance that includes both Chinese classical dance and the music. He said that the DPA world tour is "very professional" speaking from its organizational and professional standard, and is "innovative and effective" in presenting the theme and introducing traditional Chinese culture.

Allen, live entertainment production manager

Allen is an expert on the production of live entertainment. He was surprised at the DPA's scale and strength. He said, "It reminds me of a company I worked with a few years ago, that did a similar thing for European music and dance. We had a very large company that did a spectacular production, but this is much bigger and more beautiful. This is very, very good. I enjoyed it very much."

"This is very good. It really shows off the variety of Chinese culture and the beauty of Chinese culture. It's really wonderful," he added.

Singer: The show made me feel the arrival of spring and hope

Singer Elani Curtis lives in Santa Monica. She has sung professionally since childhood. She attended the matinée show on January 3, and was very excited about it. She called the show "fabulous" and expressed that she was very fortunate to see the show.

Ms. Curtis said that she was captivated by the beauty of the show. She said that the skillful use of the high-tech background screen, integrated with the stage performance, worked well with the stories portrayed. She said that this combined to make the entire show marvelous. Ms. Curtis was amazed at the precise timing of the dancers.

Her favorite pieces were "The Udumbara's Bloom" and "Welcoming Spring," because they made her feel the arrival of spring and hope.

Former CPPCC member: The DPA show has high artistic attainments, which cannot be seen in China

A former member of the National Committee of the Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in China just came to the United States a year ago. He did not want to disclose his name, but he was very emotional after attending the final show on January 4. He said that the show was wonderful, and its choreography, setting and arrangement were excellent. He said that the show had a high artistic attainment, and he was unable to see such a wonderful performance in China.

He said, "There is much dross nowadays in China, all political propaganda, or simply pornographic and debased programs performed in entertainment facilities. [we] can't see such a wonderful performance as the DPA show. Now this [DPA] show is so popular and warmly received by people in all countries." He thought the show was to the credit of the Chinese people and made him feel proud to be Chinese.

New Immigrant: The DPA show moved me to tears

Jessica, a student who came to the United Stated four months ago from China, said that the dance performance was great, and the overall impression she got was wonderful, very graceful. The setting was also very nice. She said when the Buddha came down and then appeared on the stage, "I found it vivid and spectacular, " he said.

Jessica said what the show impressed on her most was that it displayed the Chinese culture. "Some parts of the show struck a chord with me. I could not see such a wonderful performance in China."

She said that he was moved to tears by the song "Let Me Not Regret" sung by Guan Guimin.

"When he was singing, the lyrics brought tears to my eyes."

Jessica said, "I have been in China for so many years, but did not see any show that showcased Chinese culture this way. I have never seen it before. From reading books, the sceneries described in ancient books... I saw them in today's show. I hope everybody can see the show, and deeply experience the Chinese culture... very beautiful."

Ms. Li, who just came to the United States two months ago, attended the final performance and said that the show was moving, and gave her a pleasant feeling.

Former Chinese dancer: The DPA show displays Chinese history, gives people uplifting strength

Ms. Li Yue, a former Chinese folk dance performer in China attended the DPA show for the third time. She said that she loved the show because, "I feel its entire realm is beautiful, and it gives people an uplifting strength."

She said, "Many modern dances nowadays are very dark, but the DPA dances are very bright, making you feel so good after seeing it. It brings you a different life, an uplifting sense. I found that the dancers performed perfectly. I feel they are top-notch, in terms of its skills and their manner of expression."

She also talked about the stories about Mulan and Monk Ji Gong in the show. "Through these historical stories, the show gave people a warning, and also presented the audience with China's 5000 years of culture. I appreciated it very much."

"Many Chinese dances are only a combination of movements, or an interpretation of the music. But the DPA show seems to portray a history, a real historical story, and then presented them through singing and dancing. I found it marvelous." Ms. Li said, "No other singing and dancing group nowadays is able to do this."
