(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Liu Xiumei from Zhucheng City, Shandong Province was unlawfully taken away from her home on July 10, 2008 by police from the Developing Zone Police Station, which is headed by Ding Bofeng. On July 27, her family members learned that Liu Xiumei had died as a result of being severely tortured.
On July 28, when the Procuratorate Office went to conduct an autopsy, Zhucheng City assigned two carloads of special police and one carload of plain-clothes police to be present, as a means of intimidation, and yet no more than three of Liu Xiumei's family members were allowed to attend.
During her detention, Liu Xiumei's husband Wang Qinglu and their son went to the police station numerous times to inquire about her situation. When they found out that her case was being handled by Lu Min from the Zhucheng City Domestic Security Division, they offered Lu Min cigarettes and wine worth over 1,000 yuan through contacts and invited him to eat in a restaurant. Later, Lu Min promised them that he would release Liu Xiumei on July 21, but it never happened. After Liu Xiumei died as a result of torture, Lu Min wanted to return the goods he had accepted, but Liu's husband Wang Qinglu refused to accept the items. Currently people cannot get through to either Lu Min's mobile phone or his regular phone.
A month before Liu Xiumei was unlawfully arrested, her husband had accompanied her to the hospital for a check-up because she had become rather thin. The doctors said she was suffering from hyperthyroidism. After she was unlawfully arrested and detained, her husband showed the diagnosis to the police and asked them to quickly release her due to her medical condition. The police kept the diagnosis report and told him that they had to get permission from Weifang City.
Liu Xiumei's husband has now engaged a lawyer to take legal action over her death, and the lawyer needs the diagnosis report as evidence. But the police station and the hospital are shifting the responsibility to each other, and both refuse to provide the report.
In addition, when the police went to search Liu Xiumei's house, her son, who was back home from university on vacation, saw a police officer taking his mother's jewelry bag, which contained earrings and necklaces, worth over 8,000 yuan.
