After Mr. Tsai Wenhsu took the petition, he said, "Over forty thousand signatures in Chaiyi, every signature represents a mind of justice that supports stopping the CCP's abuse of human rights and the persecution of Falun Gong. I hope this will be known in Taiwan, around the world, and by the CCP. Everywhere, there is concern about the persecution of Falun Gong. Meanwhile, I hope that the United Nations and international human rights organizations ask the CCP to stop the persecution of Falun Gong."
CIPFG member Mr. Chen says the global signature campaign is an international effort to end the persecution of Falun Gong. The deadline for collection was July 20. The campaign, initiated in January of 2008, spanned the globe and collected 1,356,232 signatures as of July 20, 2008.
Among the signatories, 1,721 are representatives of various levels of government and other organizations. In Taiwan, 28 legislative council members from both parties, 219 city and county council members, and 50 government officials signed the petition.
Mr. Chen also mentioned that on July 20, it will be nine years since the persecution of Falun Gong began. The persecution of Falun Gong has gotten worse. The CCP has not improved its human rights record at all before the Beijing Olympic Games. Instead, the CCP has escalated its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
Mr. Chen said, "The results of the global million signatures campaign will be sent to the International Olympic Committee, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and other international human rights organizations. We ask them to take practical and effective action to help the Chinese Falun Gong practitioners regain human rights and freedom and ask the CCP to end the persecution of Falun Gong."
Chaiyi Council Member Mr. Tsai Wenhsu said, "The voice of justice will resound and the CCP will hear it. If everyone keeps quiet, then the CCP is not afraid committing crimes. I hope the Chaiyi City and county government will support Chaiyi citizens in this campaign, and tell the CCP to stop its brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners."
